Not a big deal but some of the people who correct others when not using the "ah" in Porsche are the same people who don't roll their Rs when pronouncing latin based words (Ferrari for instance) or use the incorrect cadence as well(Lamborghini and Spaghetti..

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

29 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey everyone , I have done a fair amount of internet searches on AWE mufflers . Lots of talk about turbo exhaust , some video clips of 996's but I can't seem to find a website that shows them available . Does anyone know if they still make/sell the mufflers for our NA 996 ? I have a chance to purchase a used set so wanted to see what new ones sell for . And just get educated on them . All the reviews I could find seem very positive .

POST 3Original post

Who is awe? I havent seen them mentioned in this forum in 5 yrs?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The tips and the mufflers say AWE Tuning on them . I think they are US made but I only find info on turbo mufflers . Maybe they don't make 996 mufflers anymore . That's why I am asking .

POST 5Original post

Have you tried contacting them directly? You'll probably get better results than asking here. They're still around. I had their boost gauge on an Audi A4 I used to have.

POST 6Original post

Yep. Awe is big with Audi and VW products. They never really cracked the Porsche performance space. I wouldn't be surprised if they had produced mufflers and tips at one time.

POST 7Original post

I am considering one of their systems for my Honda Type R. Their website does NOT show any 996 exhaust system products other than a few clamps...

POST 8Original post

Had an interview at AWE when I graduated college. Good shop up in the Horsham, PA area. I was 23 at the time debating making a run at going pro at golf (lol) or getting into the motorsport world.... Showed up, they had a black 911 G on the showroom floor and when we walked into the room, I gave the two guys a compliment on the "Porsche in the showroom" (knew nothing about them at the time.... (still don't)), only I pronounced "Porsche" the way everyone else says it.... The one dude - new VP of sales with a shaved head a goat-tee - goes "try again..." - "what do you mean, try again?" - "just try again...." and after about a minute of that back and forth I finally said it the right way and we got on with the interview, until about 5-minutes in the same dude with the shaved head and the goat-tee goes "hey, let's see if you can make it the rest of the interview without saying "um" .... so at this point I literally start sweating so bad through my armpits that you can see it even with my blazer on. The one dude (president of sales) essentially cuts the interview short and says "hey man thanks for your time but we just don't think this is going to work out" ... so I shook hands and on my way out, I stopped in the bathroom. Dude..... you wouldn't believe these pit stains. It was absolutely insane. I had no idea they were as bad as they were. Still something I think about to this day. Oh and I ended up in recruitment for some corporate company after and put the golf thing on hold. Now I drive a 996 so of course, I'm really killing it in life. And I pronounce Porsche correctly.

POST 9Original post

Glad that didn't work out for you. Suburban Philly norm right there. I grew up just down the road and am not surprised at your story.

POST 10Original post

Haha, nice - I grew up in the burbs around Bucks County and still live around here. At the ripe age of 28 and with all this working from home nonsense I've actually been looking at Austin as a place to check out. This place (and the city) is going downhill quickly. Covid really hurt the city - honestly pretty sad - aside from the businesses closing down, the homeless situation is rough down there.

They have been around for a long time. I know someone that works there now and he did not get the job the first time he applied because they asked him random questions about their website and they didn't think he did enough research about them. Hes been there years now, I guess that is a good sign but odd that you wouldn't give someone a job based on how they might have overlooked some obscure fact on your website.

POST 16Original post

I just thought it was a funny story, haha. They have a sweet facility and seem to be a good company. I also have a buddy that works there now - problem is Horsham is in a certain neck of the woods in the PA area and you really can't get to it efficiently unless you live somewhere out there. If you're up in Bucks County, it's a solid 45/hour on the turnpike. If you live in Philly.... forgetaboutit.

POST 17Original post

I think i would have cut the interview short after he was such a Di*k, but when your young you just dont know how to operate, your pronunciation of the word POrsche or Porscha.. doesnt really define how well you can do a job, they should have put you at ease and got to know you... Of course i'm 62 and conducted a few interviews, i have hired someone who interviewed really well who was an awful hire my bad..., and hired someone on gut instinct that was a terrible interview who is an amazing employee.

Does Mr Porsche-ah still work there?

POST 20Original post

Quotes source post: 18374074

He does - just checked LinkedIn under AWE company > employees. Looks like he moved to Cali but still works there. Dropping his name would be bad taste (prob gone too far already...) but I'll let you play detective if you'd like.

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just to wrap this up I just got off the phone with AWE . The guy I spoke to was very knowledgeable and friendly . They no longer make 996 mufflers they discontinued them approx two years ago . Reason was shrinking market and they were retooling for more efficient build processes and it didn't make sense to continue the product . But he did say they sold a lot of them and he considered them a mild sport muffler . I may go ahead and buy the used ones available near me . Thanks to all that chimed in .

Did he make you pronounce Porsch correctly?🙄

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Not sure if it's my German ancestry or my respect to the Porsche family but I always pronounce the name correctly . With a last name of Fuerstenberg I am a stickler for pronunciation .

POST 24Original post

As a non-native English speaker, I don't get why Americans have to pronounce the e in Porsche. Both Porsch and Porsche is ok IMO. Pronouncing it Porsch-ee is like pronouncing Mexico as Mehico, Ibiza as Ibitha, or Paris as Parii. And if you do that, do you pronounce BMW as Be-em-vee or Hyundai like the koreans do? It seems unnecessary strict

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I asked Google how to pronounce the Porsche family name and came up with this . https://www.google.com/search?q=how+...obile&ie=UTF-8

POST 26Original post

Quotes source post: 18379437

100000% agree. If I was corrected by someone who is German... I'd probably take no offense as it is a native name. So being in the military and contracting for about 20yrs, my last name gets butchered often... It's Negron and you can imagine the mispronunciations I've heard by mainly non Spanish speakers. Not a big deal but some of the people who correct others when not using the "ah" in Porsche are the same people who don't roll their Rs when pronouncing latin based words (Ferrari for instance) or use the incorrect cadence as well(Lamborghini and Spaghetti.. my Italian friends know what I'm alluding to here). I work with a guy who corrected me on Porsche but also can't say Quesadilla when using the "yah" sound for the double L, you sound pompous.

POST 27 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thechunknorris not sure if the " you sound pompous " was directed at me or not . But if it was I never correct anyone on how they pronounce Porsche . All I stated is how I pronounce it . I pronounce it the way I was taught by my German parents .

POST 28Original post

No definitely not directed to you at all people who make a big deal about the pronunciation to the point of making it cringy is who I was referring to.
