I have a 99 c4 convertible that have gone through 4 expansion tanks in five years. Just replacedthe coolant tank within the month. Coolant doesn�t leak while driving and doesn�t leak when the car shuts down. I noticed a small puddle of clear pink coolant (less than a quarter of a cup) under driver side rear after the engine has cool from driving. Thanks for any advice. Car has 107000 miles. Head gasket? Cylinder head?

Be sure to replace all plastic couplers in the cooling line. You may have a corroded hose ready to fail so check all hoses. There are like 28 hoses that carry coolant! On a lift you might be able to see where the coolant is leaking. What I did is got under the car and used my iPhone and a remote photo button to take pictures. Look up where that coolant leaks out and you might see where the leak is coming from. Or better yet go to your Indy and have them check it out. You don�t want to lose all coolant while on the road.

Four tanks in five years ???? You using OEM or aftermarket ? Were the leaking tanks diagnosed by you or your repair shop ? Seems excessive and possibly not accurate . If it was a shop what did they tell you each time ? It is very rare to have a leaking head gasket they are very stout .

The plastic expansion tank has two failure modes. It cracks over time, usually many years. Also, the tank does not seal well to the blue cap. This is the problem with the cheap aftermarket tanks. Sometimes they are leaking right out of the box. Make sure you have an OEM tank, and the latest blue cap.
