Have to bump this up - quite the story in my week and change of ownership including the engine breaking with 200 miles on the clock....
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

1999 C2 and 2001 Ford F-350 crewcab,4x4, 7.3 Powerstroke diesel. I have owned the truck for almost 20 years, bought with 29,000 miles. Now 244,xxx on it. Just changed the oil today. My wife and I were planning on upgrading the truck when I retire, but, I am not sure I want to do that. It is a good truck. The 944 has a new home.
I have an '03 ram 2500 but im a gc so its my work truck too. It only has 375k miles on it and it compliments my y2k c2 with 200k miles. I guess u can also call my toter a truck too... it does have a bed on it.
No pickup truck but I have a 1999 Jeep Cherokee XJ (invincible all purpose vehicle) and a 2014 VW Touareg (almost a Porsche Cayenne) as a daily driver. They are very useful living in Utah...
The jeep has 225k miles. Cant even remember the last time I serviced it, its just keeps going
Since I retired from Cummins, I have a Cummins Dodge 2500 Ram, rarely drive it, use the diesel Benz mostly. great ride and mileage. I did take the Porsche out for 200 mile twisty ride today with top down and 71 degree sunshine.
Was running a 128i with the 996, recently got rid of it at 217k miles for a 2015 crew cab Colorado Z71. It's been nice having something that I can throw parts in the back that would have never worked with the 128.
Ocean Blue Metallic 1999 C2 Cabriolet 6sp with 80K miles, and a Silver 2006 Honda Ridgeline auto with 128K. Love that Ridgeline! Gave the Arctic White 1999 Boxster Base 6 sp with 88K miles to my Daughter and Son-In-Law, however, I replaced that car with two Harley Davidsons, a Vivid Black 2001 Road King with 16K miles, and a Vivid Black1989 Softail Springer with a 1999 Night Train engine and transmission with only 3K miles! I rule!
I have a E350 Transit Box truck with liftgate for the business. Good for toting around stuff. Also have a 2016 Town and Country as the dedicated family vehicle. Pretty boring but hasn't demanded anything other than regular maintenance.
Holy Schnikes! You must get some looks when you show up to track days! #lifegoals
For me it is a Toyota 4Runner, but I don’t have a good pic of the combo.
I no longer own my 996 (I own a 991 now), but the combination of a 911 and a truck is perfect. I’ve got a GMC Denali 1500 in the garage along with my 911.
I don't tow my 996 but a truck comes in real handy for household projects and hauling wheels, tires, parts around. My 2021 Sierra Denali 3.0L I6 turbo diesel.
Post retirement income is much less than pre-retirement income. So we purchased a 2012 Toyota Tundra 2WD with 300,000 KM on the odo. It still runs and drives. It is what it is.
2009 Honda Ridgeline with 330,000 kms. I spend more on my 996 each year than I have in total in 12 years of ownership of the Ridgeline (not that that is a bad thing
)

I was on the same boat as you last year. I had a 2016 BMW 535i, '08 Suburban Z71, and my 996. I decided to get rid of the BMW and the Suburban in favor of a 2020 F-150 Super Crew Lariat FX4. My recommendation would be to buy the nicest truck you can afford. Having all the new tech and and plush interior made it an acceptable replacement for both those cars. I miss daily driving the 535i but the truck gives me a greater appreciation for my 996 in terms of driving experience.
How was it towing with that setup? We have a 2017 4Runner limited Im considering using to tow the 911 across country. Was looking at picking up a used lightweight trailex aluminum trailer to stay under the 5k lbs tow rating of the runner.
1998 Ford Ranger with 140k miles. SuperCab, 4x4, manual everything (transmission, locks, windows). Purchased used in 2002 with 65k on it. First vehicle I ever bought and have kept it through MANY cars.
Similar to my vehicles. I have a 99 C2 with a 99.5 F250 SD 7.3 manual transmission extended cab long bed. I bought the F250 about 13 years ago and it has been bullet proof. Very little maintenance required. Has 204k miles now. I also have a Mazda3 for my commuter vehicle.
I use the F250 to tow the 911 to the track. That way I know I have a ride home!

Very nice! Let me know if you actually do want to sell the truck. I've been looking for an OBS 7.3, but all the ones I've seen here have been worked very hard. I would 100% be interested if you do decide to get rid of it. I'm just a bit north of you
I have my V8 4Runner as my tow vehicle for now. Haven't actually towed the 911's yet because I don't have space to store a trailer, so I may just have to go the UHaul route.

Seriously considered doing a full repaint to match, but don't think I can afford the extra attention. Decided to scratch that itch with the calipers instead. Hopefully getting them back from powder coating later this week.
Its a blast. Ive got 10,000 mi on it. Its no GTI but its fun to row through the gears. I previously owned a 328 wagon and the clutch and transmission are as smooth as that in the BMW. Good quality interior. I almost wish I lived up north so I could drive in the snow.
As with most other companies, VW quit selling wagons in the USjust in time for the Golf R wagon to come about.
Im sure theyll be back.

Definitely agree that a 2nd vehicle is quite necessary since the 996 can have it's limited uses. I don't think I would have one if it was my only car. Here's my "truck", an '89 Syncro (need updated pictures since I don't have the 968 anymore). But love the combination of the 4S and the Syncro: both rear engine (where it belongs
), both are AWD, and both are silver with a grey interior. I use them both as daily drivers, switch every couple of days depending on needs, or weather, or mood. Like you guys with pickups, it's kinda like: what one car can't do the other one can.
While I don't have a pick up... I have a 2015 VW Touareg TDI. Gets about 30mpg on the highway and tows 7700lbs. They're all AWD and pretty nice all the way.
I own a 2000 C4 Cab and a 2002 F250 7.3L Diesel Supercab Lariat Longbed 4x4. And I also own 4 other cars.
Seldom drive the truck but it's indispensible when I need to do so, other than just to run it. None of the other vehicles can do what it can do. Originally bought it to carry a 2 ton camper and to tow a trailer and to use it for all kinds of hauling needs. Just use it for hauling now.
This one isn't mine but it's pretty much exactly what it looks likem except mine isn't lifted but it's still pretty high when compared w/other cars/trucks.
Recently sold my 95 Ranger to someone I am friendly with. I've owned a lot of cars but I miss that little truck. Got it from some detailing clients of mine, only owners, 115k miles and 5 speed. Stack of records that would put some high end car people to shame.
We tow a camper and tractors/equipment, so a truck is a necessity. I had an 04 chevy 2500 diesel up till last year, but at 300k miles it was gonna need some major maintenance so we got a a new 2500hd - diesel again.... It's a crew cab so the dogs can have the back half (with pet seatcovers) and the wife and I have the front.
A truck is nice to have, and we always seem to have boats (Florida...) or stuff to haul, so it comes in handy...
Love the value prop in this body style of escalade. Having to sell the gt3 soon but the escalade will be staying until its DEAD.
6.0L gasser, sofas, rear air suspension, HD tranny, all for well under 10k with low miles. Crazy capabilities for the $$$.
Not a pick-up truck but can still carry some good loads when needed, it's my DD. Got it new in 2011 and will keep it for a while, surprisingly very reliable so far. Just normal wear/tear maintenance items so far and pretty easy to DIY on it too. Cheers,
Color me jealous of the raptors in this thread...
I just picked up a 03 F150 to complement my 99 C2. Both replaced my 05 Audi Allroad (one functional kind of fun wagon replaced with a really fun car and a more functional truck).
Thankful I've been working from home so the truck's mileage doesn't kill me.
Oh yeah, for sure. 2003 GMC Yukon XL SLT, 6.0L, 3/4 ton, Quadrasteer! One of the best vehicles I've ever owned, and I've owned quite a few. Tows like a champ, 3 rows of seats for the whole crew to cruise in comfort. Take out the rear seat and easy camping in comfort and safety. Carries a 4x8 sheet of plywood (or 50) flat in the back bed. I've taken it over many high passes like Mosquito, Black Bear and Imogene, so it has enough offroad capabilities for anything I want or need to do. Quadrasteer gives it the turning radius of a Civic, no kidding. I can whip a U-turn in a regular two lane street without issue.
Way better than a pickup IMO.
Obligatory towing a Porsche photo:
the Gt3 of pickups. It may be more fun drifting around on gravel roads than the 996 on tarmac. 6.2l music through the Borla Racing exhaust is awesome 😎
1999 996 coupe and 2019 F150 supercrew 15,000 miles. No Im not tracking the Porsche. Ill let you know wife has a 2017 mb 300 4 matic and Im more comfortable in my p car that in the Benz. Anyway off subject graphrene coatings are the bomb. I did the Porsche and today completed the F150 next my wifes car.

Have to bump this up - quite the story in my week and change of ownership including the engine breaking with 200 miles on the clock.... But she's back, fixed right and I'm sitting with a 100K powertrain warranty.
I wanted to not like it as much when I got it back after what it put me through... but I laid a couple small patches pulling out of the dealership and it was back to being on my good side - we'll see how long it stays there
2021 Silverado TB 6.2
I use my 911 for all but the most 'truck stuff' tasks - I have a roof rack, a tow hitch, and a small trailer.
Truck prices are kinda absurd - so I bought 3 crapboxes instead of one nice truck. The g-wagon for wet dog stuff and trips to the dump, a cayenne for long trips, and an old 50's Dodge I keep in the city for Home Depot runs.
