Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Reported cause
The shop told me it was the clock-spring, which helped but didnt totally fix the problem.
Leading evidence: 'clock-spring' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'clock-spring' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check mass air flow sensor' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Its a new MAF (that I replaced when I was having misfire codes...), Ive also replaced the brake light switch, one of the wheel speed sensors (which was bad and was causing another problem...).

I found a replacement used unit at Specialized German from a 1999 C4 with the same Porsche # (996.618.140.00) and Bosch #. They switched it into the car and programmed it, but the car is still not working.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My car, a 1999 C4 has been down for over a month at a local shop. They are chasing a PSM/ABS light. They have replaced the brake switch and maintain it is not the wheel sensors. They had narrowed it down to the PSM module which is a $2800 part to replace. I found a replacement used unit at Specialized German from a 1999 C4 with the same Porsche # (996.618.140.00) and Bosch #. They switched it into the car and programmed it, but the car is still not working. Can anyone offer any other ideas or pursuits to remedy this issue. I am CRUSHED because I am scheduled to do the PCA DE event at Thunderhill over the weekend and it will not happen without my car.
Thanks in advance,
Mark
What is the code ?
Disable the PSM and run the event. You can do this by unplugging the PSM pump - the ABS will continue to work.
Here's what needs to be disconnected to disable PSM
Ive been chasing a similar problem for about a year now. My problems started after I had an alignment done. The shop told me it was the clock-spring, which helped but didnt totally fix the problem. I get a fault code for the steering angle sensor, but recalibrating doesnt seem to work (with my durametric) either. I guess my steering angle sensor could be bad, but it looks like a major pita job, so I havent gotten around to it yet. The upshot is that my car drives fine even even when the lights come on (after 8 miles or so). This being said, I dont think Id trust it on the track with this condition...

Im not sure if the shop that did the original work (the alignment and the clock-spring) had a PIWIS or Durametric... They tried to recalibrate it several times. The weird part is that they at least partially fixed it (initially Id have to turn off the PSM via the dash button or the ABS would trigger under certain conditions - braking in turns for instance). Now, even when the lights come on, the brakes work fine, but it is annoying/not right...
