Price was in line with everyone else, and they willingly checked stuff outside a normal PPI for me, since I could not get there to see the car.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,

Cannot wait to be part of the family
Thanx a lot in advance!
Can't help you with your question, but I hope your PPI goes well...let us know if your purchase goes through. What year GT3? There should be lots of help in Calif. for a PPI. Have you tried a search?GL
Hockeychamp,
In regards to Dutch Treat, I was considering a car in SoCal where someone else had a PPI done at Dutch Treat. The owner of the car sent me the "invoice" from the inspection. There is little to no information on it. No mention of compression testing, etc. How thorough was your PPI with them?
Thanks
I would go to The Speed Gallery which is Dan Aspesi's shop in Studio City... I use him for my 996... [phone removed] or thespeedgallery.com
Did service for me, bought a 3 spoke steering wheel and he always has a bunch of race cars he's working on there also.....
Do you really need a leakdown if the shop has up to date Porsche diagnostic equipment? Or is that just a concept that hangs on in the digital age?
My shop spends a lot of money on the latest diagnostic equipment and assured me a leak down was not needed, based on the data they got from the plug in. I had already bought the car so it was easy to let it slip with only 40k on the odometer.
I would definitely take my GT3 to Callas Rennsport in Torrance. He is undoubtedly the best Porsche mechanic in Los Angeles and has a ton load of experience in racing Porsches. He came recommended to me my Joel Reisner of the PCA, who is the 996 PCA national tech advisor.
I would suggest you give Tony or Tom at Callas Rennsport in Torrance, Ca a call. They are the best around, their prices are fair, and the work is second to none. Talk with them and I think you will be convinced in short order.
Another option if you are closer to Huntington Beach - Orange Cty... FACTORY WERKS [phone removed]
Gary Topal [[email removed]] Gary did mine - but it was kind of a re-inspect - as he was the wrench that had installed new RMS and IMS Bearing upgrade just months befor the the car was sold. My favorite Wrench here in Seattle Chris, knows him and recommends his work. Tell Gary the TechArt C4 says hello.
I am bumping this old thread as I'm looking at a 911 in Sherman Oaks this coming week.
Is Callas Rennsport the best place (seems like a long drive) or is there somewhere closer to Sherman Oaks that is good for Porsche PPIs?
Can't go wrong with Callas for sure. I'd also call

in North Hollywood. Marco, the owner owns a 996 GT3 so that's got to be a good thing.
TRE in Van Nuys was very good to work with when they did the PPI on my car. Price was in line with everyone else, and they willingly checked stuff outside a normal PPI for me, since I could not get there to see the car.
TRE specializes in air cooled builds. While I would trust them for all things aircooled, I didn't get that warm and fuzzy feeling when I was dealing with them for originally a corner balance on my 996 GT3 and when the conversation led to new suspension. Dave isn't intimately familiar with the 6GT3 so there were things he suggested that were incorrect. He also misinterpreted the corner balance information and told me that my car was setup full positive camber and couldn't go further. My LCA's can take shims, and the "full positive camber" was just the micro adjustment setting. He also thought my car ride height was way too low, but after researching, it was actually close to stock ride height (rear was at the upper end of stock). This isn't to knock TRE as I think their builds speak for themselves and they've done some truly innovative stuff, but if you're getting a PPI done for a specific car, it's best to find someone with intimate knowledge of that specific generation.
When I was troubleshooting my cats, I stopped by House Automotive in Encino (a few miles west of Sherman Oaks). I chatted with one of the techs there for about 20 minutes and he seemed super familiar with these cars and has a 996 himself. So, that's another option if they do PPIs.
You guys are all awesome!
what a great community-
We flew into LAX this morning and I saw the car.
it was a total TURD- no PPI needed as it didnt pass my 5 second inspection.
now I have another need-
any leads on a nice, clean, low mileage 997.2 turbo s cabriolet in the LA area?
Im on a mission, and dont want to fly home as the plan is to drive.
hoping I can find something worth buying-
Don’t fly home yet. . . my PPI guy here in LA may know of a Turbo. Let me see what year . . .
EDIT
: My guy got back to me, here was his reply…
Hi, Raffi! The turbo that I mentioned for sale is a 996 tiptronic cabriolet.
997.2 Turbo cabs are super rare, and sell instantly if good. I don’t know of any, unfortunately
Just a anecdote, I've worked with some race teams that have a million(s) dollar pieces of hardware in their truck...
When the car went to the garage,, it got poked prodded and probed ,, but last step it got before the teardown was a leakdown..
First thing that happened if it was running off, Bore scope.. Sometimes, its the simple things.. LOL
They had another triler with many $$$ in it for the electronic monitoring of the suspension,

Thank you-
We fly home Thursday-
I've decided to expand my shopping to 991 Turbo S convertibles as well-
Still shopping, hoping to find something worth buying before we leave----
