Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all after a bit of advice from the knowledgeable please, I have a Convertible 996 (1998) Its been piddling down here for a few days and yesterday we have had a months rain in a day (about an 1" fell) and this morning I noticed the back of the passenger seat carpet is damp to touch. Now its under the floor mat so it doesn't appear to have dropped from the roof so before I start to investigate is there anything obvious to check on the convertibles like a drain or do the roofs need re proofing? Cheers for any advice O_SR

POST 2Original post

Drains are a likely culprit. See https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...ur-drains.html

POST 3Original post

Almost certainly the drains. Doesn't cost anything to clean them out. Good luck! Pete

Thanks for the advice, one question are the drains always on the N/S IE do they shift across to N/S in Euro land? OSR

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

One other question, the rod / bar that's shown in the pictures when the wheel comes off is that just a locator for the wheel or is it needed to hold things in place... do they have a name? O_SR

The bar is very handy to have as it makes removing the installing the wheel easier. The bar can catch the wheel as sometimes the wheel releases quite suddenly and even the most experienced person can be caught off guard and the wheel can drop on the rotor. While the rotor is probably not damaged -- unless it is a PCCB rotor -- the wheel can be nicked. And getting the wheel back on becomes just a 2 hand job vs. a 3 hand job as the wheel is held in place by the car so one can then use one hand to position the wheel just so and the other to insert the 1st lug bolt. I have one bar for use with my Boxster and 2 bars for use with my Turbo when removing/installing the wheels.

POST 9Original post

Those bars are pretty cool. Where can I find one? The wheels can be a bit of a bear.

Should be one ins the toolkit. If it is missing, it is P/N 99957107430 and costs about $10.

I sit here now late evening, not far from Reading 'rock' Festival and currently on a warm Summers night have metallica sounding out in the gardens across Reading. I thought I should write and say thanks for the links and advice, I did the drain holes today took me less than an hour thanks to the links and advice in the threads on here. I found both rears were blocked about 75% full of crud. Hopefully as the water now drains clear and quick the carpet will dry out. Before and after pictures below Thanks O_Sr
