I am thinking of replacing these 18" OEM wheels with 18" non-forged aftermarkets but not sure if this is a wise act.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I read from different forums that hollow spoke turbo twists for 996TT are very strong and light. I wonder if they were forged? I am thinking of replacing these 18" OEM wheels with 18" non-forged aftermarkets but not sure if this is a wise act. I am having Forgestar F14 or CF5 in my mind. I know their so-called rotary-forged is not really comparable to forged in terms of strength, just slightly lighter than other cast wheels perhaps. Not sure anyone has experience with them. Thanks

POST 2Original post

I think you'll find many nice aftermarket forged wheels that weigh less than 996 TT hollow spokes. If you stay with cast wheels, then you should consider BBS products. They make strong, light weight cast wheels. Contact Dave at www.wheelenhancement.com and he can give you data on OE wheels and aftermarket wheels, including weight. I bought wheels from him a few years ago and the service was very good.

POST 3Original post

for the most part, cheap cast wheels ($1000-1500 per set) are bad quality. Youll have problems with them. The new rotary forged are a little better. but only wheels that are forged or cnc cut will equal oem quality. Thats why they are $1000-2000 each.
