Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I'd rather use all my existing attachments rather than buying a second set from Willwood.

Did you also use the Willwood license plate holder (with the hinge on it) ?

Maybe I could have a vertical hole drilled through my rack so it could be used with a Willwood...
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Anyone happen to have a hitch receiver sitting around that they would like to sell?
Please do NOT flame me about how putting a hitch on a Porsche is blasphemy!
I have a cab and I'd like to put bikes on the back and occasionally tow a light (300lb) sailing skiff.
cheers
Only an idiot would put a hitch on a 996.

Thanks for the support Jon. Are you using a Willwood hitch receiver? I'm thinking of going the Willwood route but my bike/ski rack is set up for a horizontal securing pin (normal style), rather than a vertical pin (Willwood style). Maybe I could have a vertical hole drilled through my rack so it could be used with a Willwood...
I have the Willwood setup on my car. In order to support a horizontal pin, you'd need to cut a much wider relief in the muffler heat shield, and it would be rather awkward to access through the bumper, unless you open up a pretty good-sized access hole in the bumper. I think that a vertical pin would be a better solution for you.
The vertical pin seems like the way to go.
Do you think that drilling a vertical hole in an existing rack bar (like the one below) so that it would fit in the Willwood receiver would work? I'd rather use all my existing attachments rather than buying a second set from Willwood. I have a second car and the idea of having two sets of carriers - one for each car - seems a bit crazy.
You shouldn't have any problems if you drill a vertical hole in that. Napkin engineering - the sole purpose of the hole is to prevent the rack from moving front to back in the hitch receiver, so you won't lose any strength by drilling another hole. If you want to be really cautious, drill the vertical hole at a different point along the tube.
If I do it again, I'll get a broader piano hinge that would allow me to raise the plate above horizontal, as I have to flex the license plate, now, to get the trailer on it. Let me know if that doesn't make sense.
