Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Check with the authorities' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check with the authorities' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I dont think that is too bad - personally I would not do either, just keep replacing the entire assembly about a 1/2 dozen times

But if someone wants to change the look of the headlights, the way to go is what oMenRC51 did in post #6.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have them and do not like them much.... I have a new look coming shortly.
The fit can be suspect and if not perfect can rub on the paint in some areas. Also once they are bonded to the light, they don't come off.
oMen, thats a nice looks - IF someone if going to do this type of thing, yours is a nice way tto go... the OP's looks bulky
BTW is that pic at the end of the road at Gene Coulon park?
Tim, what do you think about post #6?

I like the "fried egg" look of the 996 headlights. But if someone wants to change the look of the headlights, the way to go is what oMenRC51 did in post #6.
Ivan, you are correct. I live right above Coulon park. Even though I live in the "nicer" part of Renton (Kennydale), I can't wait to move out of this city...I need to be closer to SEATTLE.
Do you want to hit up Pacific Raceways on 06/12 for the DE event?
Don't hate on the fried egg!
Ok, would it be possible to do this fried egg film in blue? Legal? I'm thinking the Phil Spector of 996's.
I'm craving hash browns.
Got the film from

It is a thick mil. I wanted something to protect the lens and when I found this place has them in yellow (plus street legal in Indiana).

I love customizing, but in this case it's inexpensively trying to alter the identity of the Mk I. Just my opinion and the way I see it.
I, btw, love the early headlights. Everytime I see them, I'm reminded if the GT1 that first used them. They are the GT1 headlights to me and much better looking and fitting with the 996 body style. By comparison the TT and later 996 look sharp and have an angular look that goes against the rounded and fluid lines of body style. I didn't like them when I first saw them and haven't warmed up to them. In fact if I bought a TT, I wouldn't mind fitting Mk1 front fenders, hood and aftermarket bumper cover so I could run the Mk1 headlights.
Not saying this to antagonize people, it's just what appeals to me.
I was surprised too, especially when the thought occurred to me after I made the purchase. I had the true test over the 'Camaro Ticket' incident. As long as the film is not red or blue here you are good to go. But again check with the cops first.
Well we had old MBs with yellow lights in NY, in CA:
Blue and yellow headlights. Headlights must be white - blue and yellow are illegal (24011 VC). Look for the DOT symbol on the bulb and package.
Headlights brighter or higher wattage than those from the factory. You may be able to see better, but the lights are illegal (24011 VC).
Tail lights other than red (24600 VC).
Illegal brake lights. Brake lights on vehicles newer than 1979 must be red (24603 VC). (Vehicles older than 1979 may be red or yellow.)
Lack of rear reflectors. Two red reflectors are required on the rear of cars and trucks (24607 VC).
Incorrect color of turn signal. It must be white or yellow to the front, red or yellow to the rear (24953 VC).
Red lights to the front. They are illegal except on emergency vehicles (24003 VC).
Tail lights that incorporate a bulb with a red tint or coating. In general, custom tail lights that incorporate a clear outer shell and red inner lens are legal (24011 VC). If they don't incorporate reflectors, they must be added to the vehicle (24607 VC).
Tail lights that are too dim, washed out or show yellow, white or other colors (24600 VC).
Illegal color of side marker lights. If present, must be yellow in the front and red in the rear (25106, 24003 VC).
Driving with just parking lights on (24800 VC). Vehicles that have factory-installed automatic daytime running lights must meet federal requirements and are legal.
Illegal decorative lights (24003 VC). All flashing decorative lights are illegal (25250 VC).
Illegal windshield washer nozzle lights. Only white or yellow are allowed. (25106 VC, 24003 VC).
Lights attached to tire valves (24003, 25250 VC).
Lighted license plate frames (unless red) (24003 VC).
Illegal lights, whether or not they are operating. It is illegal just to have them on the vehicle (24003 VC).
This is the best looking 996 MKII headlight mod I've seen on the web. I called Accutint and they said it was 3M paint protection (chip guard stuff) in black. Since your car is Basalt black, what is the contrast between the black in your headlight's film color and the hood of your car? Does it look awkward at all up close?
What did you do to remove that silver disc thingy on the headlights?
Thanx
I wonder if anyone with a 996 ever did a front end conversion to a 997. I don't know if they would all fit the parts underneath, but you could buy 2 wings and a hood. I wonder how much that would cost?
