Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
I am certainly not going to be as qualified as a shop running a PPI so you'd probably want to do that anyway, but for the basics like paintwork, signs of a wreck, general "how did the PO care for the car" type stuff that gearheads/enthusiasts care about I can help out.
Leading evidence: 'Run ppi so you'd probably want' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Run ppi so you'd probably want' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

If they don't it buys piece of mind, but either way I'd have a little extra set aside to take care of unexpected problem.

I called a local 911 shop and trying to see if they will split the PPI into phase I/II - meaning if upon initial eye test, drive does not pass the standard - no need to proceed and I pay them $250 vs the full $500.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

First time posting - big fan of the community. A 996 TT Cab MT has caught my eye in California/Upland at CNC motors. The car looks clean and checks a lot of my boxes but, here is the catch, it has a fair amount of modification: G2 Intercoolers, Bilstein Coilover, Light Flywheel, Solid Motor mounts, ROTIFORM wheels and adjustable drop links. The car is priced right - but having researched items like LWFW, get a lot of FUD around impact on crankshaft - also worry perhaps it was heavily tracked tho makes me wonder why a convertible. Trying to decide if should bite bullet and get a PPI, site unseen, to get an expert opinion on overall condition and how those modifications impact ride, I actually like some of the output of the modifications but fear, as some would say, my fillings coming loose and the car being beat up from heavy track use. Appreciate any thoughts or feedback - I live in TX so not easy to go look at and not sure wise to spend $500 on PPI without some assurance its the right car.
Post this in the 996 Turbo section and you'll get better responses.

LWFW is discouraged for NA engines, but perhaps not on Turbo engines.
You may have better luck posting in the 996 Turbo forum. Some of those mods are fairly common (coilovers, solid motor mounts). The others are less common but not particularly unusual. Mods tend to detract from the price as you don't know who did the work and how well it was done whereas you pretty much know what your getting from the factory. Cab's tend to be priced less than coupes. In the TT forum there might be someone close who is willing to look at it for you.
Either way get a PPI. I'm going to guess $500 is not going to be a significant percentage of the price. If they find something it helps with negotiation. If they don't it buys piece of mind, but either way I'd have a little extra set aside to take care of unexpected problem. The PPI is great until it isn't.

Thank you Makoto - appreciate the input and agree on the PPI, I just passed on a 997.1 C2S because the borescope showed scoring in Cylinder 6. So back to my to the 996 TT.
The real problem with Turbos is more to have problems with.
Turbos don't normally last as long as engines, wastegates go bad, boost leaks can put you in limp mode, etc...
Also if/when the motors go bad they cost more to rebuild than the NA engine.
People tout the Mezgar turbo engines as being the holy grail, mainly because they don't have a weak IMS bearing and don't normally have bore scoring, but there are lots of other issues to worry about.
coolant lines, turbos, wastegates, etc.
They're great motors...but they're not perfect.
I was about ready to go out and buy that car, I am relatively local to it in OC. When I called them and got more info on the car I learned the spoiler was in-op and they had no service records on the car. I did like the mods too but ultimately I ended up bidding on a cab on BaT instead and got that one which had a better service history. If you're truly interested in the car I may be able to go check it out.
Classy move Mr TT - appreciate the offer, i'm originally from West LA so know that may be a PITA with so-cal traffic, so my first inclination is to try to avoid having you do that.. I called a local 911 shop and trying to see if they will split the PPI into phase I/II - meaning if upon initial eye test, drive does not pass the standard - no need to proceed and I pay them $250 vs the full $500. If not and your in the area - be more than happy to pay it forward or hook you up with a gift card to restaurant of your choice.
Ok - let me know how it goes with the shop. I am certainly not going to be as qualified as a shop running a PPI so you'd probably want to do that anyway, but for the basics like paintwork, signs of a wreck, general "how did the PO care for the car" type stuff that gearheads/enthusiasts care about I can help out. Going out and comparing it to the one I just bought would be educational for me anyway so it's not much of a bother. Bored during COVID and all that
