I had previously set up a time to get my IMS changed with the solution at the certified shop a couple hours away from me.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
19 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

But, otherwise, the car had been problem free but still not cheap to maintain.
Soooo. First I'd like to thank the community which has helped me sort through several problems and given me some great ideas on improvements to be made. I had been meaning to introduce myself but have been distracted by said problems.
I originally bought my 2000 C4 Cab Ocean Blue Metallic on Savannah Beige in sept 2020. This car was a local single owner car with a clean carfax and 60K miles. The guy had a huge book of maintenance records going back to new and the records themselves were pretty benign (couple of window regulator replacements and the windshield washer seemed to break every five years). The PO had changed the oil yearly regardless of mileage. The fluids had all been changed 2-3years ago and so had the coil packs. I had a PPI done which came back clean. Got the car at slightly under market and was feeling good about myself.
But...as somebody said in another thread the PPI is great until it isn't. Got the car home and drove it a couple of days and the convertible top stopped working. Read through a bunch of threads and diagnosed the problem as the pistons. Got some rebuilds and installed them and all is good for a few more days. Than the driver rear window regulator breaks. Well I can still open and close it by hand and I do look pretty good forcing it into place ( I work out). Than the top stops opening all the way. Spent a lot of time screwing around with it. No joy.
I had previously set up a time to get my IMS changed with the solution at the certified shop a couple hours away from me. So I drop it off for what I think is a quick IMS replacement. I figure while its their I might as well get everything fixed up. Well the IMS change went pretty smoothly. I also got a new clutch, AOS, thermostats and water pump at the advice of you wise ones. New window regulator..check. Now we are talking.
Sadly a small gas leak was discovered (my wife, who can smell different colors of paint, had mentioned she smelled gas but I attributed it to aggressive refueling as there wasn't any spotting on the garage. Oooh the egg on my face). So I needed a new gas tank and of course while we were there... a few other things. Oh yeah and the top wasn't an easy fix, but as they say all bleeding stops and I got everything squared away. I'd like to give special thanks to European road and racing down in charleston and especially the owner Karl Troy who was very communicative and even had his son deliver the car up for me saving me several hours round trip.
Once I got it back though...awesome. I definitely needed a new clutch. The old one was really heavy. The new clutch was pretty much normal. I love driving this thing. I'm only bummed its too cold to put the top down right now. Its the perfect daily. Comfortable for long hauls but fun is just a flex of the ankle away. Although I've had my share o troubles I also got my youngest to help me with the work so there has been some good bonding and he at least knows where the dipstick is and more importantly the basics of troubleshooting. Enough talk lets get to the car ****
I love how this car is different colors depending on the light. Lighter blue on this one to dark blue to almost black in the shade

I bought a 2000 C4 Cab in Aug 2019.
Did you install a new IMS retrofit kit when you replaced the clutch or was it done previously? Didn't have as many problems with mine as you've described but did have the roof hydraulics refreshed by my local dealer.
However, I did create a problem w/my fuel tank and breather valve by overfilling the tank. Had to replace the fuel gauge and breather value for a cost of about $2k, OUCH! But, otherwise, the car had been problem free but still not cheap to maintain.
I like the car but am not "in love" with it because I have 2 other sports car convertibles -- a 2014 Corvette and 2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder -- that I actually like better but it's a "nice ride."
Hope all of your "problems" have been resolved and that you can now enjoy just driving the car.
Ciao!
Thanks. I just had it detailed. I didn't do the ceramic coat, but instead applied 303 graphene to it. Its definitely easy to apply. Basically wipe on wait for haze and wipe off. I did the whole car in maybe 20 minutes. Its supposed to last a year and can be applied to all the exterior (glass, trim, wheels tires etc). I used it on the passenger half of the front window. I'm sure it will rain soon since I just washed the car
and I'm curious to see how it sheds water.
I did the IMS solution at the same time I did the clutch.
This car replaced a 04 S2000 I've had since new. I definitely like the 911 way better than the s2000 (although I never had a single problem with the s2000). It drives, handles and is more practical (more passengers and cargo space). It doesn't have that Vtech roar but I prefer the power to the noise. The shifter on the s2000 is far superior. Short throw, rifle action and precise. Once I get my lift I'm probably going to get a numeric (looks like a fun weekend project with the boy).

I have factory sports exhaust and its sounds great. You might want to consider modifying the C4's exhaust to get improved sound to go with the new power.
Congrats! Sounds like you've been through a bit so far but the worst is behind.
What are the buttons on the rear bumper? Can't say I recall seeing those before (or possibly just haven't been paying enough attention). Very nice, the OBM definitely glistens in various light!
Nice car! Congrats
OBM is my favorite color (I wonder why...). I was just down at Kiawah island over the holidays and spent quite a bit of time in Charlotte - great town! Good luck with the car
The "buttons" are indeed the parking assistant. Its pretty rudimentary. It beeps at you if there is something behind you the faster it beeps the closer you are. Me and the boy (mostly the boy) installed a backup camera so I don't really use it.
Nice looking 911! I've got '99 C4 Cab in Ocean Blue Metallic over space gray. I love the color but it needs paintless dent repair and a thorough color correction.
Yes. I was looking for green or blue and have been really pleased with how it looks especially in different light. My interior is a little beat up with several scratches. Next project s to research how to fix those. If anybody has had success with Savannah beige I'd be interested to hear
Scratches on the soft touch plastic bits? I re-sprayed the center console using #1131 Savannah Beige LVP refinisher, before and after shown below. For the leather I use leatherique products, however these are good for regular conditioning, never used it for heavy discoloring so can't speak on behalf of that.
