Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So, I was thinking about tradiing in my Mercedes ML350 for an AMG C43 at Mercedes of Marin and, while I was at the dealer, I just asked what they'd give me for my 2000 C4 Cab. Believe it or not, the offer was only 7k! Told the Sales Rep (who got the "quote" from his sale mgr) that I already rejected a deal for $22k for the car. Talk abaout "stealership." LOL!!!! OBTW, the only offered me $9k for my ML350 which retails for around $15k and books at around $10-12 for trade-in. Stealership status, confirmed!

POST 2Original post

Certainly playing the money crowd that are trading dollars for convenience. I need to make a lot more to fit into that crowd... Maybe I'll buy some Bitcoin, my day job isn't cutting it...

In 2018, a BMW dealership offered me $31k for my pristine manual 997.2 C4S with 40k miles on a trade. I laughed.

POST 4Original post

They're definitely called stealerships for a reason. On the converse, I had a 128i purchased at 50k and traded in at 217k. Headliner sagging, valve cover gasket leaking, ABS/BRAKE/TRAC lights were all lit up (no CEL at least), different colored scrap yard hood (hail damage to previous CF), ridiculously scratched up roof (still unsure how), bald tires, brakes with 10%...., they gave me $1,500. Not great, but better than the expected $0! Should have asked what they'd offer on the 996 just for entertainment.

POST 5Original post

Carmax offered me $1300 for my 2004 Audi TT 3.2. I posted an ad asking for $4000 (still below market) and it sold within 24 hours at full asking price. I dont think Ill ever do a trade in again...

POST 6Original post

Most of my trade-ins got ridiculous low ball offers. I ended up coming out better selling them outright. But that is definitely insulting for a Porsche... heck, that's a roller price!

Yup, they'll give you $7k do a detail and a oil change and then turn around and list it for $28k - $30k and take $25k -$27k...

POST 8Original post

I got as low as $9k for my car, and as high as $15k for a trade-in. The average was $12k. I checked Edmonds valuation, and that ranged from $22k to $30k. Like a lot of things, the truth is somewhere in the middle between two extremes

POST 9Original post

The problem with old car trade-ins (even cool cars like the 996) is that they always go straight to auction, so there's no money to be made for the dealer. At least that's what salesmen tell me!

POST 10Original post

My brother in law found the new allroad he wanted (20th anniversary edition) and agreed to trade in his 2016 S6 for it on a Friday last fall. They offered him $20k on the trade and hes the kind of guy who values the convenience. On the following Sunday we were meeting them at a pumpkin patch to do family stuff and an uninsured motorist totaled his S6 into a guardrail. The insurance company gave him $26k. The car was worth more dead than alive.

POST 11Original post

I refuse to trade in vehicles. I've had two friends in the not-too-distant past who needed vehicles. I sold one a Ford Ranger for $1 and the other a Mustang GT convertible for $1. The Mustang was my toy before I bought the 996. The Ranger was re-gifted to another guy who needed it more. Not sure what happened to the Ranger, but I know it was driven for a while. My other friend still drives the Mustang. I need to buy him a new set of tires as the front ones are nearly bald. He's a hard worker and good friend. I would rather help friends out than get pennies on the dollar from a dealer.

I'd like to have friends in Hawaii! I would like to live there for a while after retirement. I have been there twice in vacations and loved it.

POST 14Original post

I was actually surprised, I put my 99 cab into Vroom, I think it was Vroom, because I was tempted to pick up an RS3 and they offered me $14k. A dealership offered me around $9k.

POST 16Original post

In 2018 Carmax offered me $4K for my 2009 BMW 135i. I listed it on Facebook/Craigslist and it sold for $9K. For $4K I would have just kept it or given it away. I gave away my Toyota Avalon when I bought the BMW in 2016 to a family in need. They sold it shortly after for cash to pay bills.
