All I have to say is that I drove a '03 C4S for 7 years and it was the most trouble free car I've ever owned.

Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'most trouble free car i've ever owned' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). I located an EXTREMELY clean C4S with the following options and specs.

I think what it has going for it compared to other 996's is the fact that it has such a clean widebody shape, that rare rear center optic, and all the turbo's running gear sans motor of course .

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

All services up to date (IMS issue not resolved...)
Hi all,
I am new to the forum and the Porsche community! I am currently in the market for a 996 911 C4S.
I located an EXTREMELY clean C4S with the following options and specs. Because I am new to the community, I am not exactly sure what it is worth. It seems there is a large discrepency between one comparable car to another on eBay (sold listings).
2003 911 C4S
75,XXX miles
Manual transmission
Little to no cosmetic or mechanical flaws - interior and paint look brand new
All services up to date (IMS issue not resolved...)
Carrera White Exterior
Natural Brown Leather Interior
Options:
XPA - Thicker Steering Wheel
XE8 - Dark Burr Maple Gear Lever
XE9 - " " Hand Break
X45 - Colored Instrument Dials
X99 - Natural Leather Interior
288 - Headlamp Washer
446 - Wheel Caps With Colored Porsche Crest
680 - Bose Sound
Opinion on value?
Thanks everyone for you time,
BB
What would you say the price would be for a 2003 C4S with 20,000 less miles? Would a rule of thumb be to add $2500 to the asking price for every 10k miles less?
I am hot on the trail of a 2003 C4S as well. It's a 2003 with 52k miles on it and IMS done.
i am still looking as well except for a c2 but have been following prices pretty closely.
It appears that those in the know mileage (simply for the sake of miles)isn't a big deal if maintenance records are up to date. Condition, maintenance, and known issues resolved will raise the value of the vehicle.
That being said, I believe that $5k for 20k miles is a little rich, but if the IMS and clutch service are recent than that will save you $2000 to $3000 in repairs and I think those two things together are worth the $5k...
Without seeing pictures, 22-24 for the first car and 27-28 for the second car seem resonable.
What is everyones opinion on values of the 996's? Will they begin to appreciate (assuming they hit bottom) when the next gen all-turbo 911's come out?
The trend seems to be this:
Water-cooled 911's are introduced -> Air-cooled prices go up
PDK transmission becomes the "norm" -> Manual trani cars go up
All 911's go turbo
-> NA 911's go up???
Can't go wrong at $23-25k, buy it! Most ebay listings show pricing into the mid $30's which is way to high.
PPI passes of course. Also, make sure you pay for the PPI done by an Indy. This was they have to speak directly to you and you know nothing funny was going on.
The C4S I am looking at is a custom color direct from Porsche. White and red were my second choices. Too many silver and black ones out there IMHO, even though Black is sexy as ****.
the aircooled cars didn't go up right away. You could still buy decent 911SC's for 15k probably 5 years ago and the water cooled cars had been out for 2 generations at that point in time. IMHO the air-cooled cars became more valuable as the last recession came to an end. Does that mean the air cooled cars are over-valued? I don't think so, not right now.
As such I don't think the 996's will appreciate. Some day sure, but i don't think you will see the rapid rise in prices like you did with the 964 & 993 over the last few years.
If anything, the 996 being inexpensive right now is attracting people that might come to appreciate them more and over time they will appreciate.
C4S without an IMS done with those miles ,which isn't bad at all should be in the $24-25K range for an uber-rare bird like that in Carrera White.
C4S values are going to jump up sooner than later which is why I decided to get one before I lived the shoulda woulda coulda tale. I think what it has going for it compared to other 996's is the fact that it has such a clean widebody shape, that rare rear center optic, and all the turbo's running gear sans motor of course .
How much they go up is hard to say, definitely not air-cooled crazy...but I imagine it will eventually be difficult to get a well sorted C4S for less than $30K one day.
I agree, although I am certainly biased, having recently paid considerably more than that for my C4S.
In my case, I wanted the best example I could find, with all issues and / or potential issues addressed, and that's what I bought.
Got my 03 c4s a little less than year ago carbon fiber package 59k miles og owner traded to porsche dealer and purchased new one. Everything dealer serviced with full records but ims was not...inspected when they did clutch and didn't change...anyways I paid 32k out the door (tax, license etc)...seen some going for more and some for less...go with your gut and ask a lot of questions...so far mine has given no probs what so ever
Looks like you got your question answered. If it passes PPI and you love it then negotiate and don't look back.
These are awesome cars! Trust what you read here. If it checks out clean and speaks to you - get it!
Great looking choice too....
