The front of the plastic hinge on the lid itself is broken and had been repaired before with some sort of glue etc.

Hi all I have a broken hinge setup on my 1998 996 C2. It was optioned with the full leather interior which is just beautiful, the leather has been well looked after and both doors, A pillars and dashboard surfaces are as brand new - it has that olde world club lounge leather feel which only comes with time and care etc. But... the R/H (Im in Oz so we drive on the right) door compartment lids hinge assembly is broken. The front of the plastic hinge on the lid itself is broken and had been repaired before with some sort of glue etc. But, clearly this is a weak point as its broken again, and the replacement part is over AU$1.2k, because in true-to-form car manufacturer traditions, one can't just buy the broken bit, one MUST buy the whole assembly which will not only not match the rest of the interior finish, its also outrageously priced! Has anyone else suffered from this problem. and do they have any suggestions to get it repaired, or am I stuck with the crazy prices of a new one? I've tried eBay, local car wreckers etc with no success... Ideas anyone? Thanks for taking the time to read my post too...! Rgd's Andrew
