Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i have a gt3 front on my c2 and i am about to install a third front radiator. I read that the gt3 rs has better aerodynamics since the air is routed up through the bumper from the third radiator. Is it possible to just cut holes in my front bumper and route the air up? I havent seen any rs parts in the PET I found on the Internet. What parts are needed? Is it worth the effort? Robert

POST 2Original post

Yes, you can. Whether or not it is worth it is really up to you. By all accounts, at high speeds the difference in downforce is supposed to be significant. The center radiator is tilted forward with spacers and there is a duct (a GT2 part) that routes the air upward through vents you cut. You also block off the lower vent holes to prevent air flowing there. There is more info in the GT forum here on rennlist, but weve discussed it in here (996 forum) recently. From the notes Im keeping: Center radiator gt3 rs: The bolt and spacer parts below can easily be replaced with parts from most good hardware stores. 2 x M8x65 if you want oem part number is 900 378 175 09 2 x spacers 48mm long to use behind the radiator's top with the above screws oem part number 996 507 779 90 You will also need to put an extension spacer to the two rubber pipes that connect to the radiator ends parts from your local hardware store and /or two little rubber pipes from any car store (samco etc) if you don't want to cut them Some people successfull flip the radiator and make the stock hoses fit without extensions. Since now the radiator is closer to the bumper you need to modify the center airduct so that it fits. Or you can buy the 6GT2 airduct or the cup airduct. 6GT2 duct: 996.575.325.30

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Another thing, how do I know where to cut in my bumper. Is there a template?

POST 5Original post

There are some templates floating around either here or six speed online, but nothing official. As far as I know, the real gt3rs bumpers come with the cutouts in place as delivered (there was a bad batch at one point where the jig was misaligned). Some googling around should get you the templates. If you cant find them after looking a bit, let me know, I think I saved a copy off someplace on one of my drives.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Regarding the air duct and the GT3 RS center radiator. I have struggled to get the front air duct for the center radiator to fit. The other day I talked to a specialist Porsche racing company. They say that the 996 GT3 RS has the same radiator configuration as the standard GT3 and hence use the same air duct. The air is then routed up through the front bumper and over the hood. This is not really ideal since the radiator sends the air down (The radiators upper edge leans backwards from the front of the car) so the air has to find its way up again after the radiator. The guy at the specialist firm said that this seems like it is mostly to look cool, not a very ideal installation at all. If the radiators upper edge leans forward towards the front, it is a GT3 cup configuration. The GT3 CUP also has a bigger radiator than the GT3 RS. The GT2 RS also has a bigger radiator than the GT3 RS. This means that GT2 RS parts or GT3 CUP parts does not fit a GT3 RS! I have seen people write that to lean the standard GT3 radiator forward you need to modify the front air duct “a little”. I would say that this is an understatement. The air duct has to be rebuilt a lot to get the air flow directed into the radiator. Robert
