Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
I think it can be done if they're not completely shot, but I have the tools to adjust the alignment so there is less risk for me doing it than someone without camber and toe tools.
Leading evidence: 'Clean ; put hex screens in bumper' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust alignment so there is less risk' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

A few weeks ago I bought an 01 C2 cab with 54K miles as a project car. I knew the brake discs were thin but everything else worked fine so Ive done the following DIY pre-emptive projects. What should I do next?
Full 60,000 maintenance fluids, filters, spark plugs and belt.
IMS bearing replaced with LN Retro
RMS replaced
Clutch pressure plate, disc & release bearing replaced
Brake discs and pads replaced; fluid flushed & bled
4 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires mounted on Victor wheels
Pioneer double DIN audio w/ wireless CarPlay installed
Backup camera installed
Exterior paint color-sanded, polished, buffed and waxed
Radiators and condensers cleaned; put hex screens in bumper
New frunk lift cartridges & frunk cable re-routed
Convertible top cleaned and sealed
Hard top received, cleaned and mounted
Its a street car, not track. Ive got to shelter in garage so where should I spend my money next?
Replace front coffin arms and control arm links.
You can normally do this without an alignment.
Do the side turn signal mod. (I like this because it alerts drivers near you that you're changing lanes, so "don't speed up and get beside me!"
Consider adding a dashcam.
Garage door opener mod.
Spoiler switch mod.
LN spin on filter
Ln magnetic drain plug
LN thermostat
you have wheels so coil-overs
tranny and engine mounts
You sound more interested in doing the upgrades and getting it proper than driving. Go enjoy it. Whenever I get obsessed over upgrades and maintenance super fast I end up getting bored when everything gets done.
Drive it for a couple of months, get to know the car, and the list will create itself. All the suggestions are good. I think driving for a while may help you prioritize.
Thanks Guys! Now I've got a good To Do list!
TexSquirrel: Since reading your suggestion, I have started the side turn signal mod by removing the headlights. I'll be soldering in the morning to complete it. A fun mod because I can see the result immediately. I'll look for new switches to use for the garage door opener and spoiler switch mods. Are front "coffin" arms front control arms? Bushings look good but after 19 years are probably rock hard, so need changing.
mrdeezy: I got the LN oil pan plug when I changed the oil. I'll get an LN thermostat before I replace the water pump. Engine mounts look new-ish but I'll remove them to check. (Yes, you're correct that I'm a gearhead who likes garage games as much as driving.)
Mike M: "drive" After 60K maintenance and IMS I drove round-trip to Vegas - 600 miles.
Weazer: yes, water pump and AOS on my list. PO bought new coolant reservoir tank.
Astro: It has bypassed mufflers that sound good and throaty.
rockhouse66: coils had no cracks but next time I'll replace them, along with new tubes, I think.
Re strip club, in Arizona only "essential" businesses are allowed to open. Golf courses are considered essential here, so strip clubs must also be essential, right?
It is definitely an easy mod, and improves safety for your 996.
I used this for the garage door opener:

...and this for the spoiler:

Grab the part numbers and do a quick Google search and you might find them cheaper.
Ahh, the wonderful Porsche front suspension parts with the many names. (the rear has even more names to the suspension parts)
The "coffin arms"(6) are also sometimes called the "control arms" or "lower control arms" or "wishbone."
The "control arm links"(3) are also sometimes called the "control arm" or "front control arm" or "tuning fork."
Front Suspension:
The good thing is these two parts are the exact same parts(same part numbers) for the rear.
The rear also has two "control arms"(8) (also called front and rear "upper control arms" or "wishbones") and a "lower toe link."(13)(also called "track bar" or "track rod")
Rear Suspension:
You can normally do the front without an alignment (Although an alignment is probably not a bad idea) but the rear would usually require an alignment, especially if replacing everything.
You might be able to just do "coffin arms" and "control links" in the rear and get away without an alignment, but you're leaving too many old parts that probably need replacing as well.
I would wait on this until you can get an alignment post-COVID-19-isolation days.
This is wrong; alignment will definitely be messed up by replacing these parts, and will need to be corrected. There is way too much variability in the dimensions of these parts, how the diagonal control arm can be tightened down, and in how much the rubber bushings can wear, allowing the geometry to change. When you replace these parts, the most likely scenario is that your camber will be just about right, but toe will be WAY off. BTDT.
I've done it a few times and the numbers were always very close to before numbers.
It should be close enough that you can drive it a while as-is until times get back to where you can take it in for an alignment.
But yes, if your parts are completely worn out, then you'll need an alignment to get everything back in spec.
I think it can be done if they're not completely shot, but I have the tools to adjust the alignment so there is less risk for me doing it than someone without camber and toe tools.
Check your 2018 AGI to determine if and how big of a check you get. Are you going to track the car? PPF for the nose. GT3 or equivalent LCAs to get more negative camber,
The math on this suggests you can't ignore checking alignment after taking this apart and reassembling it, even without changing parts:

Okay, a photo, but it looks a lot like so many others - nothing unique here. Previously I have built cars that were rare and unique so this 996 is more common.
TexSquirrel, I've made the side lights blink per your suggestion - thanks. I've ordered the switches to put the spoiler and garage opener on my dash, but I'm holding off on suspension work until after this virus crisis because I'll need a professional alignment. Maybe engine mounts today, or tomorrow, or . . . this house arrest makes me lazy!
Ha, I used to live in Mpls and will come visit friends there this summer when AZ is HOT . . . if this virus stuff is done. Now is a nice time here to go topless but not allowed, so wrenching on it.
