My experience with cracks in drill rotors from track use was the rotor was approaching minimum thickness before needing to be replaced because of cracks.

Suggestion
PowerStop and others recommend slotted rotors for track use which are much less susceptible but not immune from cracks at the slots.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Lol!!! "Street Warrior Performance Kit"! Racecar strategically placed in background!! Lol!!!
I love listening to the various "brake upgrade" marketing sales pitches. Such nonsense! Selling items to people who dont need them. Notice how they throw in the "safety" idea to help sell a worthless "upgrade"?
Reminds me of the K&N CAI thread on this forum.
Putting on track pads and drilled and slotted rotors on street cars actually makes braking worse. Track pads need heat in them to work. That's why racecars speed up and slow down really fast while waiting for the green flag. They are putting heat into the pads.
I wish I could buy a blank rotor for my 996s. The drilled rotors are a joke. Our cars got them strictly for marketing purposes. It doesnt increase braking performance. In fact, it's actually worse for 99.9% of the owners out there. Less surface material to help slow the car down.
A blank rotor and an appropriate brake pad is what 99.9% of drivers need for the best braking components.
While I’m not an authority of brakes, I suggest that for street use, there are lots of options, and not need to spend a fortune. I personally like the stock style Textar pads, but they are dusty. I went with Sebro slotted rotors, as I do DEs with mine, although admittedly have not experienced cracking with stock style cross drilled rotors, but the slotted ones were basically the same price. I’d give the RockAuto ones a shot personally, pretty decently priced for the whole kit, and the ceramic pads are likely cleaner.

But they sure do look cool (no pun intended) ! I'm sure Porsche looked long and hard at the sales/marketing data before they decided to include drilled rotors on their street cars. I'm also sure that it helped tie the street cars to their "race car brethren" in a very noticeable way (everyone who drives a Porsche is a closet/wannabe race driver)... Win win for Porsche
There was a lot of good opinions/options on this thread to peruse. Not sure if anyone commented on the set you are looking at though.

Thanks Nick. I searched and never even came across this post, and I know there are others I've seen in the past.
Just looking for the best bang for the buck as shipping to Hawaii usually kills me.
I never read the marketing that's mentioned in my link, but I'll have a look.
Is going to disagree a little. Primary purpose of drilled rotors is heat dissipation. I'm guessing there is a fairly high percentage of Porsche owners that would heat up blank rotors to a point it could case issues with the brake fluid and/or pads. Warping would also be an issue. If your driving style doesn't include that spirited drive with aggressive brake use, blank rotors would be fine IMO. I'm sure Porsche took into account the surface lose with the drilled rotors when they designed the size. That said not sure why you would want to downgrade the brakes on a Porsche.
There are many OEM equivalent drilled rotors from sources like Pelican Parts and FCP Euro with their life time warranty. As many if not more choices on pads. As already mentioned track or race pads need heat so not a good option for street only. Plus they tend to squeak. Less dust is another issue. There are hybrid pads for those who occasionally Xcross or DE.
Many who DE or track frequently use the Sebro slotted rotors. All drilled rotors will eventually develop heat street cracks around the holes. A crack will catch your fingernail. Cracks are not an issue until they are 5mm or longer, join the adjoining hole or the edge. My experience with cracks in drill rotors from track use was the rotor was approaching minimum thickness before needing to be replaced because of cracks. I do now however use Sebro slotted but realize I have probably added heat load to the fluid and pads.
The biggest savings on brake rotors and pads is DIY
Disagree. The primary purpose is to give an escape path for rainwater and gases released by the pads when they heated by friction, to avoid the pads "floating" over the rotor surface with reduced friction and thus increased stopping distance. The slight increase in surface area making for better cooling is just a side benefit. For a street car, brake cooling is completely unimportant. Brakes should never be getting noticeably hot on the street, since significant brake heat only comes from multiple hard applications. Street brakes really only need to be good for a single hard application, e.g. if a deer or a kid jumps in front of you. Should be enough time in between such events for the brakes to cool off
Ive installed similar PowerStop Street Warrior Performance kits on other vehicles.
Probably installed a dozen of them over the last few years.
Ive never had an unhappy customer.
But none on a Porsche.
My recommendation is Pagid rotors and Akebono pads.
Thats what Im running on my 996.
I got them from RockAuto.
FYI, front pads are 917, and rears are 738.
Front rotors are 317mm and rears are 298mm
First I will totally agree that drilled rotors allow pads to out gas and rainwater however the holes also improve the convection and allow the rotors to cool better. You can find multiple opinions on which is more important today.. PowerStop states that BMW, Corvette, Porsche and Mercedes use drilled rotors for convection cooling. I believe earlier asbestos pads had an out gas problems which drilled rotors solved. Todays pad compounds have minimized the out gas problem.
Especially if used on the track drilled rotors will develop heat stress cracks radiating from the holes. PowerStop and others recommend slotted rotors for track use which are much less susceptible but not immune from cracks at the slots.
C'mon Bill, go for the looks! That's why you have to go with the drilled holes. Solid rotors won't look right Bruddah!
You know I'm kidding ya. You'll make a wise choice
Dont be surprised if theyre drilled when you receive them.
Those are likely stock photos and not a picture of an actual item.
I didnt see non-drilled or solid rotor being mentioned.
Ill put in another vote for Pagid rotors and Akebono pads. I installed them last fall and am very happy with them. Hard to beat the price, too. Plus, very little brake dust!

LOl, I should have read the details and not relied on the pictures...To many damn options, my heads going to explode! Plus an eye infection doesn't help with reading fine print...
Saw post # 21 and ordered brakes for the rear of my 02 996. All set to order and a warning flashed on the RM European shopping cart . They only have one ATE rear rotor in stock. Damn it! I ordered everything except for the rotors and will have to wait until they get some stock or shop elsewhere.
Incidentally, I was going to order everything from Sunset Porsche until they added $118 shipping charge. It made their prices not so competitive.
One point to note: The Factory designed drilled front rotors are angled vented/vanes and are left/right specific.
Some of the aftermarket front rotors may or may not have angled vents/vanes.
The rear Factory design vents are not angled and therefore are not side specific.
Another vote for Akebono pads. Dust free and when you need it on public road for instantaneous braking, it grabs even when its cold and wet. The problem is they don't provide pads for all Porsche models.
Ordered the rotors yesterday afternoon and they arrived this morning! Overnight from AZ to NH with free shipping? Now that's a bargain. Now if I only had the pads and rest of the parts I ordered from RM European.... Just kidding really, as I placed the order yesterday.
