Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Check rear hatch' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check rear hatch' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Used a Kennedy adapter and flywheel, I have used 2 of them and they are the best.

These cars then ended up on random used cars dealerships throughout the US.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

There you go if you had any questions about driving in the salt and if a 996!has better corrosion protection. This is in the drivers footwell, no visible rust in the outside of the car, but I suspect there are pinholes in the floor.
Dont expect to get the salt or brine off the car by rinsing the outside, its very intrusive. Car lived in New York for some time and has 134,000. If you want to keep it nice dont drive it in the salt.
My car is a 2000 that has about 98,000 miles on it. I live in the Chicago area where they use lots of salt. There is some rust and corrosion on the outside and underbody but none on the inside like that. And I have had the roof drain stop up a couple of times where I had quite a bit of water on the inside, to the point of having to remove the carpeting to dry it out. I am thinking that the corrosion you have may not be from the outside. What do the carpets look like? Could it be salt on you shoes/boots that is soaking in and causing this?
The carpet was dry underneath and it is confined to where you would put your feet. Definitely salt and wet feet, Just showing the people who ask about driving in the winter what comes from it. The road de-icer gets everywhere and is impossible to wash out.
All I would like to get across is that taking your car to the local car wash for a rinse or even an under body rinse for 30 seconds removes a small portion of the salt and brine.
Yea....very odd. NE heavy salt region drive all year round and have more miles than you. No rust in that area...i had to remove carpet for different reason last year
I have Weathertech rubber mats for the winter season and they do a great job keeping the floor dry when I drag snow and crud into the car thus mitigating the potential issue.
You may be correct, as the the engine sounded it had gravel floating around in it. Lots of shiny oil , but it did start right up. Heres how it looks now Not too much to see, but a couple of small turbos.
Highly doubtful... These types of cars rarely get used like that. 99% of people who buy these types of cars are somewhat "retentive" and generally very careful with big ticket items like sports cars.
There isnt any corrosion anywhere else in inside of the car although the underside is corroded from salt. No rust holes, but lots bolts that wont come loose easily and corroded aluminum. Working on cars for 40 years i have seen plenty of this. A rubber winter mat would have helped this. Salt is bad.
cdk4219, curious as to why you chose the LS1 as opposed to, say, the LS3? I have toyed with the idea of doing an LS3 swap on my 996 if my 3.4L ever crapped out on me. LS3's at 430hp available at JEGS/Summit for about $7.5k. Just did a quick search and saw that LS!'s are about half the price, was cost your determining factor? With those twin turbos, what kind of hp are you making, I would imagine north of 430, no? Your setup looks really clean and compact. Which conversion kit did you use? Apologies for all the questions, but inquiring minds want to know!
Highly doubtful that is from wet boots with salt on them. If it is on the inside only, there's a good chance that car was in a flood.
Where was the car during Hurricane Sandy?
My friend bought an SUV from CarMax a year after Sandy here in Maryland. He had brake issues so I offered to look at it. The whole bottom of his SUV was covered in rust. I was shocked. One front caliper and one rear caliper slider pins were rusted so bad, they seized.
I checked the rear hatch to see the spare tire. Yup! The jack was completely rusted. It was so bad, we couldn't even get it to adjust. We looked up the car's history and found it was in NJ during H. Sandy.
I did more research and found that several insurance companies, particularly USAA, paid out the initial claims without branding the titles as salvage, They then worked with companies to clean up whichever cars that could be cleaned and shipped them ALL OVER the country. These cars then ended up on random used cars dealerships throughout the US. They literally took some from NY to Idaho.
Someone talked about how all of these "flooded" cars were at an airport and then all of a sudden, they were all gone.
This might have happened to your 911.
. I have worked in flood cars before and they are filthy under the carpet. This is clean and no rust elsewhere inside it is confined to the shoe area.
This is clearly shoe salt. Although you are entitled to your opinion.
Just had some remaining ls1s in stock and used it. Should make around 600 whp. Probably should get a spare trans for the inevitable. Used a Kennedy adapter and flywheel, I have used 2 of them and they are the best.
something not right there... I deal with plenty of 9x6/9x7 that are fully winter driven and never seen anything like that, always pristine inside...corrosion on underbody/powertrain/chassis hardware and coolant pipes/brake lines yes, but body shell no
What possibly else could it be in an area directly below where you rear your salty shoes. Nowhere else. You guys go ahead and discuss what you speculate it is. Have fun
Yeah, something is unusual with your car. I've owned plenty of northern cars also, Porsches and otherwise. Rust like that from the inside is unusual in any modern car, particularly if rust is absent elsewhere.
Yea and corroded just the drivers footwell area😃. Leaving no water marks or silt inside. Carfax shows car in Tennessee at the time of the sandy flood, but maybe the tidal flood got that far.
Maybe the prior owner weighed the car down with salt bags in the footwell area for extra weight?
Tennessee has been flooded a few times over the past 15 years, I have a friend there and have seen the pictures. That car has been in a flood! Maybe at an angle and only on that side...Who really knows?
Why post if you’re going to get all worked up by the responses?
Looks like some aftermarket speaker cable near the rusty crud; maybe someone drilled a hole where they shouldn’t have?
Thats a possibility, although the car sat outside in the weather until a month before I took it apart. The foam in the carpet takes a long time to dry out,and it is bone dry.
I didnt post to ask how this happened, I posted because there are usually quite a few people that ask about driving their car in the winter. I thought I would show some pictures of salt damage and where it gets in the car.
On cue the thats a flood car and my car doesnt have that starts. Its always a bore score or IMS deal with some, You tracked your car thats why the IMS failed, or the better one your bore scoring was because you live in a cold climate.
