Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

AOS was replaced last year and I believe my motor mounts are only 2 years old.
Leading evidence: 'Replace air oil separator' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check faults' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

The idle itself looks good, it's not bouncing up or down and no CEL but I don't have a way to currently check faults.

AOS, Fuel Filter, plugs/coils, MAF, TB clean...none has worked for me so far.

My recommendation is that people begin replacing these preemptively.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

AOS, Fuel Filter, plugs/coils, MAF, TB clean...none has worked for me so far.
I dunno, if this forum makes my hyper-aware of anything my car does or something, is actually wrong. Sitting at a traffic light I notice my car shakes, shimmies, vibrates whatever you wanna call it. The idle itself looks good, it's not bouncing up or down and no CEL but I don't have a way to currently check faults. AOS was replaced last year and I believe my motor mounts are only 2 years old. I ordered plugs and some extra coil packs because I have no record on those anyway so I figured I would start there. Any other ideas?
I hadnt thought to use shimmy to describe a similar situation. But, I know what youre talking about. AOS, Fuel Filter, plugs/coils, MAF, TB clean...none has worked for me so far. Injectors are next item on my ever growing list - cant leave well enough alone!
In the 944 world a shake at idle was a clear indication of bad motor mount(s). I'd look there even if your mounts are not that old. Perhaps check if your tailpipes are even. If not, one mount might have gone bad.
I was told the mounts were done and nothing was noted on the PPI which seemed thorough but I will add to the list since I have no proof. I do have an uneven tailpipe but the PPI said something about the hardware being broken but I will have a look. I will assume the trans mount was not done since I have zero indication it was. I got some mufflers and all the ignition pieces so I will get the the bumper off and take a deeper look in the next week.
Here is a little more precise way to determine mount condition than looking at tailpipes.
Worn mount
New mount
Old and new on bench. No fluid leaks, but clearly sacked.
I agree with Strathconaman. These cars are starting to require new injectors. I checked everything but injectors off my list and still had a vibrating seat and eventually many other fuel related problems. My recommendation is that people begin replacing these preemptively.
I am no engine expert, but many others on the forum agree and Ive witnessed two cars I n the last 6 months that had failing injectors.
I am definitely going to add them to my list but I am going to cross off spark plugs and coils first, simply because I don't know if or when these have been changed, at least recently.
Folks with an FSI motor have said the first thing they notice is the smoothness at idle and lack of vibration. Maybe the internals are better balanced plus harmonic dampening? Both my 99 and 02 exhibit some idle shimmying. Both cars ran great.
