Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

OK, may be a stupid *** question but I have been looking and looking and cannot find WTF the engine compartment light on my car? I was trying to swap out the 641 bulb for an LED like I did in the trunk but I can't seem to find engine light nor can I find a picture online of where it is supposed to be.
Better you install the light and leave the lid down so the engine compartment fan if (when) it comes on can do a more effective job of ridding the engine compartment of the heat from the engine and exhaust.
I am in the same boat with a connector and no light. I went to the Sonnen on-line sight and they sell a left light and a right light, same with bulbs too. The lefts are the same PN as the rights, but this raises the question of how many lights there are. The light PN is the same as the frunk light.
I need to get one of those. My light has purposely been removed by me and left off as I tend to burn my head a lot when doing stuff in the engine bay. I suspect this is why some of you also have had yours removed by PO. I would imagine the LED version would be a LOT cooler.
I just installed Sylvania 6411 led in the trunk and and "was" going to install one in the engine bay. But noooo!
Also, installed Sylvania 6418 led's to replace license plate bulbs. I got tired of them burning out and replacing them.
Both look good and are cheap enough on Amazon.
Hi Gang,
New 2002 996 owner here. I have no engine compartment light on in my car. Pulled the bulb, and it was totally black. Bought a new LED replacement. and it does not light. I have not yet checked the voltage at the bulb holder. The black bulb didn't look like a normal bulb failure to me, and I tried to find the fuse for the light...no success. Does anyone know which fuse controls the engine compartment light? TIA
John
I believe the 996 (at least in Carrera form) only came with the engine compartment light if you optioned the lighting package which included footwell lights and a dash button. Mine did not have one but did have the plastic mount for it so I installed one w/ an LED bulb.
Good to know
I purchsed the items for the factory footwell option, including the switch from a Porsche Dealer, but have not installed yet.
I may do the holder and LED also in engine compartment
I never would have believed it, DBJoe996, but you were right! All I had to do was flip the bulb and all was fine. Also noticed that once the bulb was in the plastic holder, the polarity effect was true for plugging in the power to the holder...one way the bulb lit and the other it didn't. Just try different orientations to get the holder in correctly and the bulb lit.
