Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I'm considering a black on black Porsche 996 C4S 2004 convertible automatic with 60,000 miles in LA. 2 owner car, local car with clean carfax, good service history but in need of 60K service. Asking price is 33K, any suggestion of fair value? Car looks fine.

POST 3Original post

Quotes source post: 11557531

I'll second that. $33k way too steep. $27k-$29k tops

POST 4Original post

You can get your asking price if you have the major service item completed the IMSB. A quick scan of Autotrader in Atlanta and Miami showed several cabs similar with your price range. A user here sold his C4S coupe last week for $30.2k an '03 with 98k miles on the clock. That is about 10% more than he paid 4 years ago. Yours is a cab a year newer with 40k miles less What are compatibles in your area say 100 miles going for ? Good luck.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for all the input. A follow up question, would a coupe with the same miles etc being worth more/less? Also is manual worth more then automatic?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 11557623

30.2 for a 03 with 98K miles sounds really high. Looks to me that they cant give away 4S cars with 100K miles. I see cars asking in the low 20 ties all the time and they stay un sold.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 11557564

Thanks for the price range suggestion. Whats the reason for the discount? That its automatic, the miles, thats its due for service, that its a convertible, or all of the above?

POST 8Original post

There are a lot of variables. Cabs are generally higher priced. Manuals can sell for a bit more in either coupe or cab. It all comes down to miles and condition. A very clean nicely detailed no stories records very original car with garage queen miles will fetch a premium. If that's your car, you don't care what the others are because to the discerning buyer the 20k car don't count. Your buyer target will not be the bottom feeder guy who can barely afford a porsche. His target is the 20k car. From your cars description Your target buyer is not as plentiful but knows the value of a car I described above. Place ads in the Panorama magazine, here on Rennlist and in the local area regional PCA rags.

POST 9Original post

I'm gonna go against the grain on this one and say 33k is about right. The main factor would be exclusitivity and low supply. The c4s vert was only made in 2004. Coupled that to a tip tranny which would increase the buying pool substantially for that demographic market where cabrio, auto, older cruisers, style combos plays a role. Then you have the black on black combo which is a bit harder combo to find. Unless the owner is desperate and doesn't know what they have, I can't see it falling below 30k. My $.02

Hi, thanks for the feedback, just to clarify, I'm looking to buy the car (not sell it)

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 11557811

Thats my thought as well, somewhat high miles but good history with 2 owners and serviced. The expected 60K service is a concern though, what to expect to find and what it will cost. Don't think the seller would go below 30K.

POST 12Original post

Quotes source post: 11557979

Not sure why I misunderstood that ! Sorry. Good luck with your searching. I found a 03 C4S coupe 69k miles blk/blk all records lots of options for $27k.

Coupe or convertible?

POST 14Original post

People should stop comparing C4S coupe to the convertible for some of the items I mentioned above. They are not an apples to apples comparison in the pricing market IMO.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Car sold before I had the time to inspect it. Thanks for all the input

POST 16Original post

There will be another one come along. The search is half the fun. Don't get frustrated or get in a hurry. Take your time and be certain when you do pull the trigger. Watch this forum - in the last year, there have been two smoking good deals on cars that traded hands between Rennlist members that I can think of off the top of my head. Watch for someone that upgrades to another Porsche and is motivated to sell. If you appreciate the car and make a reasonable offer, you can get a great car really reasonably priced.

POST 17Original post

Doesn't surprise me since they are somewhat rare relatively speaking and only come around once in awhile on the used market with that combo. IMHO, the c4s verts should be able to sell at mid 30's all day long. Just like the GT3's in the 40's would sell all day long.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for all the input, agree on all (C4S convertible prices etc)

POST 20Original post

Great thread and comments about the 04 C4S. For more information I run the 996 C4S Cabriolet Registry on 6speedonline. There you can find a monthly tracking of what cars are for sales, pricing etc. As stated this is a rare car, they don't last long on the market and desirability seems to be pretty high at this time. There has been some small appreciating in pricing in the last 18 months (10%). When I bought my car I believed it was at the bottom of the market for this model. I have not seen another C4S Cab with manual sell for less than $26,000 since. Also as a side note the 996 C4S Cab was made in 04 and 05 only. However there are very limited number of the 05 model year out there. Good luck with your search and hopefully you'll find what you are looking for. Cheers.
