In my search for a decent seat I've been trying to avoid the ones that use the rolling mechanism in order to adjust the backrest angle as I need to lean my seat back in order to get the chair in and out.

Realizing this fact I think I could deal with the rolling method of changing the back angle, then I remembered the manual Cayman seats used the ratchet.

Looks like I'll be going with the Recaro speed and dealing with the wheel adjustment unless someone can swoop in and inform me of a set of quality seats that use the old fashioned ratchet design.

I'm not guessing they have a manual option that uses the lever instead of a wheel?

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello Porsche brain trust,
I'm looking for people that have experience with the Recaro Speed seats and the Cayman Sport seats (I believe they're the ones in the Cayman S). I'm in a wheelchair and I need to find some seats with more aggressive kidney and shoulder bolstering to keep me in my seat during spirited turns. I'm kinda hanging on for dear life when I take a left hand turn with the stock seats in my 996.
In my search for a decent seat I've been trying to avoid the ones that use the rolling mechanism in order to adjust the backrest angle as I need to lean my seat back in order to get the chair in and out. Then I found out that none of the quality aftermarket seats use the ratchet system that makes leaning forward and back much faster. Realizing this fact I think I could deal with the rolling method of changing the back angle, then I remembered the manual Cayman seats used the ratchet. So I sat in a Cayman S today, and it definitely hugs me more than the stock seats, but I'm not sure how it compares to the Recaro. The only local Recaro dealer around me only has the Recaro Sportster CS on display and doesn't have any of the Speeds to see in person. I like the idea of staying pure Porsche, I just want to do as much as I can to make sure the seats will keep me planted.
I thought seats could be purchased through dealers, so I looked at my local Porsche shops today and was informed I was incorrect. I'm guessing the best resources for finding Cayman Sport seats would be here and eBay? Also, are there any manual Porsche seats that have more aggressive bolstering than the ones mentioned? I believe the new Cayman GTS seats are deeper, but I heard the seat brackets changed very slightly and they would not be plug and play as the first generation Cayman seats would be. Can someone verify this for me?
I guess the main thing is, how does the side support compare between the two? Is the material on the Recaro Speed comparable to the Porsche factory seat? Just from briefly looking around, it appears I'm going to be looking at about $2000 either route that I go, is this a fair number or should I expect more (or less)?
If this would be better suited in another section please let me know and I'll delete it and recreate, unless a mod could move it for me. I mainly asked in the 996 specific section because of the fitment question on the first and second gen Cayman seats.
Thanks for any insight that can be provided!
Well, it appears I made the wrong assumption at first look of the Cayman seat adjustments. I thought the large lever was for leaning forward and back, but it appears it is for seat height and there's still an electronic switch for leaning forward and back. Looks like I'll be going with the Recaro speed and dealing with the wheel adjustment unless someone can swoop in and inform me of a set of quality seats that use the old fashioned ratchet design.
Here's the site showing the Cayman adjustments:

I appreciate everyone taking their time to look over my thread.
I can't speak to the cayman seats but you would have to get creative and custom fab seat adapter brackets which would be PITA.
I've had the original powered comfort seats, US GT3 sport seats, and the Recaro Speed. The Speed's were the most comfortable and gained a bit more headroom in the process. They were also the most comfortable and if you get the fabric version, should keep you cooler as well.
The only reason I got rid of them was because I was changing up my color combo and wanted to try out the US GT3 seats. Definitely not as good but liveable.
The service manager at a local Porsche dealer said the first gen Cayman seat brackets were plug & play with the brackets on my 996, he didn't mention any custom fabrication needs. Though, finding out that the backrest lean is still powered has completely turned me away from wanting them as my current seats are powered and they're slooooowwwww.
Thanks for your input about the Speed's too. I'm debating going for the Speed S version that's vinyl bolsters but alcantara inserts as I think it'll be a good happy-medium. I just need to go to my local shop again to re-evaluate the wheel adjustment.
Thanks for the tip. I might look into this in the meantime if I decide to go to any events while I'm deciding on the permanent fix I want to go with.
I think he is getting mixed up and means direct bolt in to the 997 models if it's the seats I'm thinking of. First gen Boxster seats fit directly into the 996 models.
Loved the built in lumbar bladder too.
Nice seats!
What Recaro seats are those? I'm not guessing they have a manual option that uses the lever instead of a wheel? I know I'm beating a dead horse with that, it's just something I want to be 100% sure about before putting money down on a seat that isn't ideal for me.
He made it sound like the 997 was interchangeable with the 996 as well. He said they didn't change the bracket until the 991/981.
Sorry, I got mixed up and yes the 996 and 997 seats physically fit each other. It's the wiring that needs modification that I had a brain fart on. The 997 connector and wiring are different, especially on sport adaptive seat models.
For some reason I got the Speed model seats mixed up too and thought I was posting those. I used to have Speed seats in my m3. The ones I had in the 996 was the Recaro "Top Line" model.
Hope that clears things up.
Ok. It's good to know for future clarification, but with Porsche not offering a fully manual reclining seat that'll drop into my car, I believe the Speed S will find its way in my car about as soon as possible.
I appreciate all the input given. Next will be trying to sell my current seats, but based on what I'm seeing on eBay and the fact that they're 12 years old with 82k miles on them (though they're in good condition considering), I'll be all but giving them away.
