Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

FWIW, I run a low temp T-stat and Mobil 1 oil filter on the LNE adapter.

Liked the way the engine sounded, better (I'm sure i'm not the only one that normally notices the engine sounds & feels different after a fresh oil change, especially if you change brands) as there was less tapping noise at idle, and the engine feedback didn't seem as dramatic when the Variocam plus kicked in.
Leading evidence: 'Run low temp t-stat and mobil 1 oil filter' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace especially if you' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Went from Mobil1 0w-40 through about 40k miles to Syntec 5w-40 through about 50K miles. It was quite noticeable with the Mobil 1. I went to JG DT40 at 50k over a year ago, and immediately noticed the tapping noise was gone. Completely. (It was slight at idle with Syntec but definitely there. Much more distinct with M1. Any increase in RPMs killed it with either oil.) Engine also really seemed to idle & rev smoother. Did my second change of it about 300 miles ago, (been over a year and over 3k miles). And still no tapping and the VC+ feedback is very slight. Still seems to be reving smoother, and looking at my past notes, my mileage has increased about 1 mpg since I've been on the DT40. I drive about the same routes and miles, and don't look to be in the highest gear at all times. I like to keep the revs above 2700 min. Went from a fairly regular 24ish combined MPG to 25. Gets a steady 28 if just on the interstate. Of course I can easily drop it in to the teens if I am aggressive on it, but time and opportunity for that are much less often these days.
Not looking for comments or explanations, just reporting what I've observed. I saved a sample of the DT-40 to send in to Blackstone labs, along with the last Mobil1 & 2 samples from the Syntec changes, that I also took but never sent in. I'll be curious to see how they all compare.
FWIW, I run a low temp T-stat and Mobil 1 oil filter on the LNE adapter. The mileage seemed to increment up a little after the T-stat install, but more so after the DT-40. Could just all be co-incidence, too.
I have to agree on the quiet and smoothness. I have a case in waiting for my next change. Might be a little extra in cost but worth it. Some places sell it with free shipping.
Thanks fl996, in about 3 months the website is going to get a total makeover with over 50,000 car parts added, so I should have most parts for the 996 with free shipping for orders over $70.00, I'm pretty excited.
