Suspected cause

I replaced it when I thought there was a problem but it turned out to be the pinion bearing in the transmission which I then had rebuilt by Gbox.

Outcome qualification: Negation, uncertainty or missing explicit repair resolution overrides the raw extraction signal.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 1 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am searching for a front differential for my 99 C4 Tiptronic. Current diff is fine, but has a leak through a crack on top (according to indie) I am in MD, but willing to pay for shipment. thanks in advance!

POST 2Original post

I have one from my 2000 C4. I replaced it when I thought there was a problem but it turned out to be the pinion bearing in the transmission which I then had rebuilt by Gbox. I will sell it for $400 plus the shipping if you are interested.

POST 3Original post

I just replaced my leaking front diff on 03 4s with a used one from a local RL's 996tt. Your leak will get worse and you will start hearing whining sounds when off throttle. $400 offer above is very fair for a used, non-leaking, diff. I paid slightly less but guy had 2 and was happy to get some cash for one. Labor was much more than the replacement part. Good Luck.

Optionman1 - thanks! Much appreciated!

POST 6Original post

FYI, alternative is an $1,100 rebuild of existing diff. Company in CA I spoke with if you want any info.

POST 7Original post

i call BS on there being a crack on the top. I'd consider a 2nd opinion.

POST 8Original post

My leak was not on top. After finding the leak and replacing the diff I noticed the diff fluid had damaged the ceramic coating on my front left rim. I had seen the discoloration when i washed my car/rims and thought it was brake dust that somehow caused the issue. Turned out to be the diff fluid.

thanks, the indie is well regarded and was ultimately surprised himself. I have not seen pictures, but I have the car back as-is. I share your thoughts, but all indications are he is trustworthy. Thanks.

thanks. Will ping you if I cannot make it work with Dharn55. This wonderful 911 is just a toy for me and I would rather not overspend if I can. ;-)
