Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, My 2000 996 Carrera Convertible has the extended leather interior, meaning practically all inside is covered with leather. After 10 years under the FL sun, the leather on the dash board has shrunk, enough to curl up and show the insulation underneath. It is clearly visible looking in from the windshield, it's all the way to the front of the pad, just before the vents. So, is there anyone out there who have fixed the same problem? Looking into the workshop maual it seems like a major PITA to remove the dash. It actually looks like I have to remove the entire dash, not just the pad on top of it! Any thoughts would be very welcome. Thanks, Johan

POST 2Original post

This has been a problem with Porsche dashes (all leather dashes really) forever. They can be recovered, I believe Dallas Custom Steering Wheel will do them. Also, a shop called "Classic 9" or "9 Leather" or something like that as well. If you get in touch with them I'm sure they can tell you what's involved.

POST 3Original post

I did this to mine last winter. The entire dash has to be removed. It is not difficult, just tedious. There are a few threads if you do a search. Take lots of pictures and find a good method to separate all the screws ( I used separate zip lock bags and labeled them).

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
