I put handbrake back in place, locked down 3 of the 4 bolts then lifted the handle to tighten the bolt under the handle.

All, I was working on replacing the console of my 996. I put handbrake back in place, locked down 3 of the 4 bolts then lifted the handle to tighten the bolt under the handle. Well, apparently I don't know my own strength and actually broke the frame of the handle as I lifted it. I have the carbon fiber handle but bought a leather based one as a replacement. Is there a way to swap the handles? It looks like there is one major pin/connector (pictured) but I can't tell if this is compression fit or screw in. Has anyone done this and if so how did you do it? Thanks, Steve

Put a socket on it and give it a rap to see if it will budge..hopefully it will...looks more like a press fit to me..be sure to support the underneath when you do this, BTW...

When I replaced mine, I think 2 of the 4 mounts were broken, but it wasn't that noticeable. If 3 of your mounting points are still intact, you might not notice.

I managed to broke the frame of my handbrake when replacing shifter cables. That cast aluminium is very fragile if it�s loose.... You can remove that pin. It�s secured with those punch marks in the end face of the pin. Use small drill and drill litle shallow holes on to those puncmarks. Then just tap the pin out, it�s need�s a litle force but will come out. Use some socket and hammer, tap lightly to the same face that you drilled the holes. I did not put new punc marks after installation and the pin is still on it�s place. Check allso the steel locking plate on the frame, the one with saw edge. Those can be diffrent, I had to change that from the old frame.
