Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello everyone, haven't posted before but have done much reading and am always impressed with the help on offer. I'm a relatively new owner of a 996 turbo, loving the car but a few niggles that I'm trying to sort. One of which is that the climate control doesn't work (heating works, AC works, temp control doesn't...) - I had the system checked and seems like the footwell sensor is reading something like 50 degrees above what it should, so I'm thinking this is confusing the system. I have tried to find the sensor but so far no luck. Can anyone help? The workshop manual is vague: 1. Remove footwell bulkhead. 2. Unclip centre console cover at the front and remove the footwell vent (3 screws) 3. Turn blower outlet sensor by -90 degrees- and pull it out. 4. Pull electrical plug connection off blower outlet sensor. Firstly, what/where is the footwell bulkhead? Is it the thin bit of foam above the passenger's feet? (my car is RHD, I'm in the UK...) Centre console cover? Again, what's this and where?? Any help much appreciated - with pics even more appreciated! Thanks everyone

POST 3Original post

You may want to check the 996 Turbo sub-forum. Most folks here have the N/A 996s.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Surely the heating system is the same in all 996s, but thanks for the suggestion.

POST 6Original post

On a LHD '03 996, that sensor is hidden from view behind a duct that's full of holes right above the brake and gas pedals. To get to the sensor, you need to remove that duct. See photos of the black duct. 0606151645.jpg

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Many thanks for the help mate. Are we talking about the same sensor though? This is the one I think I'm after: http://workshop-manuals.com/porsche/...res/page_2858/

POST 8Original post

Yes, the footwell sensor, which needs to be twisted 90 degree to remove. That duct that's full of holes is supplying air to the footwell so it only makes sense the sensor is right "before" it

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Gotcha Have tried to remove the duct with the holes but the thick black wire that loops underneath it (and can be seen in your pic) is preventing me removing it. Is there a trick to getting it out?

POST 10Original post

Um, wonder what that cable is. Seems too thick to be an electrical cable routed in the open like that. Could it be a hose? Does it help if you remove the horizontal duct with cordian on it?

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
