Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

23 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm looking for this part: 996 632 121 02 https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...side-door.html It has been discontinued. ECS, Pelican, Auto Atlanta can't get it. I know it is highly unlikely but anyone got one? Maybe there are still a few kicking around in Germany somewhere? Or out of a parts car? I'm grasping at straws but it is the very last piece missing to put my car back into "like new" condition.

POST 2Original post

Maybe here https://www.usporscheparts.com/oem-p...ts-99663212302 Wait..I see that part number is not the same. I just Googled the part number. Did you try that?

POST 3Original post

Maybe this will help https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...side-door.html

POST 4Original post

What precisely is damaged or missing on your car? Is it only the lens or are you missing the entire wire too? I can see how the wire is a problem, however, if you're only missing the light/lens there are plenty of those on ebay without the wire. https://www.ebay.com/p/664293087

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah, that is the one for a RHD car in the passenger door. As such, there are 4 part numbers that are really close to each other. The one I need is for the driver's door in a LHD car, specifically 996 632 121 02. I have googled it and found it "In Stock" at the 3 places I mentioned, only for them to e-mail me telling me that it was actually unavailable and my orders cancelled.

It is actually the much smaller light. So, the part is a wire about 6" long. It sits inside the interior door handle. On one end of the wire is a tiny LED that pokes through the door handle and illuminates the gauge cluster. The other end of the wire is a plastic connector that goes through the door card and plugs into the white wire-connector on the pigtail coming out of the door. It is one of the connectors that has to be unplugged when you pull the door card off. The damaged part on mine is the harness/connector end. So I can put the LED in, it just doesn't light up. Repairing it is semi-feasible. Would require ordering a transistor and some soldering. Which is Plan C. This thread is plan B.

POST 7Original post

Ohhhh ok. I'm sorry I will admit I only googled the part number you posted and I did not click the link you provided. I would have seen the photograph of the part they are depicting on google and the part you are looking for are not the same part. I will help you hunt for parts in junkyards online in my time off (few hours from now.) I have had luck looking for entire assemblies in junkyards because usually the dudes will not take the time to remove every single piece, rather, they'll remove the entire door card and sell it as 1 piece. If you're willing to buy an entire door card - if you can find one with all the wires still connected - you can get that for probably more than you want to spend but then actually have it.. and then figure out what to do with the rest of the door. Maybe hook another RL member up! That's my best idea right now.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This is how it looks at the moment (excuse the dog hair). Forgot to include a coin for scale, but it is 6 inches long. Repair would involve soldering the left side components back together. Thank you Dr. Strangelove. That is exactly the info I'm looking for. I'm admittedly fairly green working on cars, especially older ones with discontinued parts. So I don't know the names of many of the online junkyards. Some recommendations of where to look is precisely what I was after. And yes, I've considered that a scrapped car owner might want me to take the whole door card. Just playing it by ear at the moment.

POST 9Original post

In the fourth photo I feel like I can see one peeking out from behind the handle on this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/17533392366...UAAOSwCCFiupl3 If it's standard equipment then theoretically even Boxster complete door panels would have them too. I hope so because they're about 1/2 price.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It certainly does look like it's there. That does open up a few doors I'll look into. Thanks!

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

on a bosxter its 986 632 121 12 it looks very similar but slightly different you can see the wire and where it sits if you zoom in the 4th picture here: ebay sits the same place in the 996 door card. i bet the part could work. TY Maybe I will make the ebay seller a lowball offer, or perhaps try repairing mine first. since the cost of a door card and shipping is a bit to make this led glow.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I ordered the part for the boxster as it was only $20 and I think I can make it work. We'll see if Pelican cancels this order too.

POST 13Original post

If you cant find it new, try DC Auto (on web) or Specialized German (on EBay)

DC Auto has one used for sale for $15, so thanks for the tip! Gonna see what happens with this pelican order for the boxster part first because DC Auto has a $50 order minimum and I don't need anything so I'm not sure what to order haha.

That place is like the cementery for all 996s. They do a lot of business the trick is finding a good salesman then he will really work for you. And yes they will negotiate with you. There is another big one in California, I believe it is in rancho Cordova, I just cant recall the name right now. My experience has been better pricing at LAD.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Pelican cancelled the order for the Boxster part, as expected. Feel like I am helping them do inventory at this point. Going to order from dcAuto but they have a $50 minimum. Trying to find something on their site I might need in the future. If anyone has a suggestion I'm all ears. Otherwise I guess I'll put it off a while.
