Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Replaced the filter, cleaned the injectors, and replaced a bunch of fuel lines.
Leading evidence: 'Clean injectors' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'only thing' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean injectors' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

That's probably the only thing that could get me to part with the C2 I have right now.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So... I wound up getting a position I had been after for a long time in Europe. Looking at probably 4-5 years in Munich. But the bad news is that I'm not going to have a way to ship my 996 for at least a year, and depending on how things go there, I might end up just driving something else (company car offer is pretty enticing, 330d Touring with the B57 turbodiesel, and I don't know that exposing an already slightly rusty 996 to German road salt is a great idea regardless).
I have a garage space here in CA, so that's not a worry, but what should I put into prepping a 996 to store for at least a year, potentially longer? The garage isn't temperature controlled, but its insulated and weather sealed completely, so I shouldn't have any water or animal ingress issues. I know the general stuff that applies to any car, battery on a tender, jack stands if possible to avoid flat spots on tires, don't just start it right up after a long sit since oil could have drained out of passages, etc., but is there any 996-specific stuff to worry about? One thing I don't have to mind is shocks going bad since those are already shot on all 4 corners (going to put off replacing them until I'm able to drive the car frequently again, dropping 3k on new shocks just to let them sit would be really stupid), but pretty much everything else on the car is good. I was planning on changing the oil and filters in a few weeks anyways, so that will be mostly fresh when its parked. I can't really think of anything else that could go bad if the car is stored right.
Its crossed my mind to sell it, but given where the market is it would really pain me to do it.
As for the fuel system, that was one of the things I went over completely when I did a major service. Replaced the filter, cleaned the injectors, and replaced a bunch of fuel lines. Also took a look inside the tank with a camera, and it all looked perfect. So I'm starting with a clean slate... not sure if that will do me much good though.
I wouldn't worry that much about the fuel system, especially if you are smart about it and leave as little fuel in it as possible and make sure that little bit of fuel has stabilizer in it. In my experience where you run into the most issues with the fuel system is trying to run old gas and metal tanks rusting/ the liners coming off. I have found plastic tanks tend to hold up well and not give as many problems. That being said if it ends up being parked for 5 years you might need to do a bit of work to get it back up and running, but that is to be expected.
There seems to be conflicting info everywhere about whether or not to leave your tank empty, half-filled, or filled to the brim. This ferrari thread recommends filled to the brim with stabil

Personally, from my experience, if it was about a year or less. I would probably keep it full with stabilizers. But if it has the potential to sit for several years, and given the location (CA) and the fact that it is a plastic tank. I would leave it close to empty. In this scenario I would not expect too much condensation in the tank and then when he goes to start it back up he doesn't have to deal with getting rid of 20 gallons of bad gas, which is very difficult, and probably even more so in CA or the EU.
I'll probably be able to come back roughly annually for a week or so to drive the car, so I'll probably try and go the first year with a full tank and stabilizer, then re-evaluate after that.
Sell your car here.
Buy one in Europe. Use the BMW as the DD and the 996 on the 'Ring.
When your Europe job is over, ship the 996 to the US under the 25-year law.
I'm going to be honest, I had not once considered buying a Euro 996 and then bringing it back. That's probably the only thing that could get me to part with the C2 I have right now. I do still think, at least for this first year, I'm going to hold on to the car. Its costing me nothing to store, and I'll be back in ~10 months to either sell it or ship it out. For the meantime, the BMW should be more than enough car.
Also, curse you, I've now looked at 996.1 GT3 pricing and am trying to convince myself that its somehow feasible to get one of those... despite well-worn examples being worth more than twice twice what my C2 would sell for.
That's basically what I was figuring. 996.1 GT3s aren't exactly common cars, and while I don't have any month-by-month production data, just a quick look at listed cars seems to suggest there's about 4x as many "late" .1 cars with the electronic releases than "early" cars with mechanical releases... HOWEVER it also seems most of those "early" cars go cheaper as they as they are far more stripped down in terms of options, which is what I'd want anyways. They will definitely all be import legal by the time I'm back, so its not a huge deal.
What I'm trying to figure out now is how much a 110k mile C2 with blown shocks is worth... and whether or not I can justify spending probably twice that on a GT3. We will see.
