Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Replace flywheel' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace flywheel' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

So I fixed it again and conceded to set the rev limiter to 11,500 RPM and called it a day...
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So I fixed it again and conceded to set the rev limiter to 11,500 RPM and called it a day...
I am working on this 996. Engine out, gearbox separated, clutch and pressure plate off, and I went to remove the dual mass flywheel... and every one of eight bolts were just finger tight. WTF? It looks like the bolts were not replaced, just re-used and not even thread locker was used, and not torqued properly.
What would have happened if the bolts were loose and the flywheel got loose and sloppy?
I think you would feel quite a vibration before anything too catastrophic. The pilot bearing on the end of the input shaft should keep it from coming off the crank. They would have to back out so much that they come in contact with the clutch disc to start doing damage. The used transmission I have has hole repaired in the bell housing from a pressure plate bolt coming loose.
Back in the 80's I had the flywheel break the bolts off 3 times at 12,000 RPM on an inline 4 cylinder Race Engine.
Inline 4 cylinder engines have an inherent harmonic vibration that comes in at 4k 8k and 12k RPM that cannot be balanced out. ( without a separate balance shaft, but that's a whole other subject).
The 3rd order vibration broke the Factory 12mm fine thread bolts off, so I re-drilled to 1/2" fine thread grade 12.9 bolts and Loctited them and safety wired them, Then broke them off like glass.
Next I drilled six 1/2" holes in between the six 1/2" grade 12.9 bolts and put in six 1/2" dial pins along with the six 1/2" fine thread grade 12 bolts that were Loctited and safety wired, Then broke them off like glass.

When the flywheel comes loose at that RPM it runs around in the bell-housing and vibrates so bad it will blur your vision. Luckily I had a 1/4" steel bell-housing/scatter shield in it.
There is a rule in Racing that no cast flywheels are allowed if the engine turns over 8K rpm. IF over 8k rpm it must have solid steel or aluminum flywheel and a 1/4" thick steel scatter shield or bell-housing.
If a flywheel comes loose at near 8K rpm with an aluminum or cast bell-housing, it will come right through the bell-housing and floor-board, and a foot ,leg,***, or anything else in the way !!!
