Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have to do the expansion tank on a 996.2. Waiting for Porsche tank to come in. In preparation, I tried to loosen the engine mount nuts without supporting the motor. Only used a breaker bar so far. Sprayed penetrating oil. The nuts won't loosen. Is supporting the engine necessary to loosen those nuts? (Note, I plan to support the motor when lowering, just trying to see how hard the nuts are to loosen). Thoughts?

You need to lift the motor before you loosen the nuts, otherwise the full weight of the engine is resting on the nuts.

POST 4Original post

I hate it when the weight of my engine is resting on my nuts.

That's never a good day.

POST 6Original post

The clamp load on the mount studs/nuts is probable about 20,000lbs/10 tons... The weight of the engine will make little difference in the break-away torque required.. You need a longer breaker bar, or you need to do a few more bicep curls..lol

POST 7Original post

Make sure you are turning in the right direction. Sometimes its easy to get this backwards.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was being lazy. I am just going to take the impact to it when I’m ready to curse the tank replacement. I was going to try to pull the tank without touching the engine mounts. I bet I replace those too.
