Joe996 so far I only used compressed air blowed from the sunroof but I think I will do the opposite.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi everyone, I basicly never drive my 02' C4S while its rainy outside. Today was one of theses odd days and I realized my sunroof is leaking. I got water around the back of the rear pillars, close to the back glass plus two spots located left and right 6inch at the back of the sunroof. Some water(only few droplets) were the passenger side back seat... So went to have a quick check and realized that the sliding function of the sunroof doesnt work anymore... Only the tilt function work. So it will open ( with a klonk sound at the end..) , do nothing else when I press buttons and close nornally. I tried re-teaching following the usual procedure but it doesnt work. Dont know if it matter but the car is in "dealer mode" actually. So is there a tutorial about testing the switches and motor so I can troubleshoot the exact cause ? This function would be nice to have especially if I want to change the seal or do basic maintenance. Is it a PITA to change the motor in case of a failure? How can I make sure the railing are proprely lubed and how can I lube them proprely so I take that out from the equation? As for the water I will try to blow air in the drain holes but I cant acces them from top... I will have to blow air the opposite way from the wheel arch to the sunroof. I know its a newb question but is there 1 or 2 drains ( one on each sides)? If I cant find any debris in the sunroof is it possible that the seal need to be changed as it simply allow to much water in? My book says you slide the sunroof after to clean all the debris... I guess I should have to sliding function working before attempting the clean-up? Thanks for your help Hugo

Someone have experience with faulty sunroof?! I would really like to know if there something I can refer to as I never worked on sunroof before..

POST 3Original post

Not me but if you Google the topic you may find some results.

Thanks bill, I did and I mostly find the re-teaching procedure and how to clean the tracks but only while the sliding function work. I will take out the motor, clean everything and test but I will document the whole procedure and post it here. As soon as the sliding function work I will clean the drain and install a new seal.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok I decided to do repair today and I must admit Im more than happy with the result! The sliding function work perfectly now so I will be able to change the seal ASAP. So just for the ones like me who dobt really know where to start with this kind of problem here's a quick tutorial. This tutorial is about the details I havent been able to find! First you have to remove the 2 smoke plastic parts to access and remove theses 2 screws: Philips Screws are located far left and far right Move the rubber boot aside to access and disconect the connector Note the correct position of the plate Remove this screw before trying to take of the control board cover using T20 The whole case with the board inside will be free. You can try to unlock the white 2 wires connector while you are at this step so you wont stretch the wires Now its time to remove the circuit board from the case With a small flat head screwdriver pry out the side of the case to detach the circuit board from the case Once out give it a good clean-up with contact cleaner or isopropylic alcohol 90% Its time to put the board back in, make sure all the lock tabs are all locked, there is a total of 4 tabs but only 3 are in pictures The board should slide in and fit flush as it was before Tranfert case opened by removing the last 2 T20 bolts Apply white lithium grease Re-assemble everything Now its time to clean the sunroof activation switch. You can pry out the side of the switch gently and the button should be easily removed Put a small amout of dielectric grease on a Q-tip to take off the contact plates. Clean the contact points with another Q-tip and contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease and replace the contacts plates 3 total. re-assemble Now you can put back the switch and the motor. The magic should operate!! Hope it helps Hugo

Very detailed. Thanks for sharing. Glad you got it working....don't forget to check your sunroof drains.

POST 9Original post

Good write up! * Is there a place where write ups like this can go/reside and not get buried in a complete thread? If not, there should be...

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 15857661

Hi everyone Thanks for the good comments. Well I have a tendency to forget things myself so it also help me alot in remembering the procedure years after. If it can be useful for others why not. Joe996 so far I only used compressed air blowed from the sunroof but I think I will do the opposite. From the wheel arches to the sunroof. Pictures of where the drains are located would be useful. I have a schematic plan of their locations but its not really precise..

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok I cleaned-up the drains today. I also added some plumbing paste on the plastic cap where the drain hose plug into to seal then perfectly with a nice seam all around. I also added shrink wrap on the drain tube to make sure their are sealed proprely. Plus ziptied everything. Added a bucket of water on the sunroof and it doesnt leak anymore!!! Only thing is I found this seal hanging in the head liner. I couldnt find where it goes... It was located almost at the back. Between the little metallic bar and where the headliner clamp. Doesnt seems to go on the sunroof or the windows around... Any idea?!

POST 12Original post

Maybe the edge protector...goes along the back side of the sunroof opening see here #23 http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-p...section=811-00

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 15862400

Oh it could be... Maybe I should have opened the sunroof and look at the back of it before putting everything back together.... It doesnt leak at all so I guess its not that important but I will defenately have a look next time I work in this area. Thanks!

POST 14Original post

I'm not 100% certain, but I think the edge protector goes on the sharp metal edge on the rear of the sunroof opening so that when opening the sunroof the edge doesn't drag on the sunroof lining. Something like that. It doesn't provide any sealing, just protection.

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 15862400

I think is that. They tend to be swallowed when the roof slides back Regarding the tutorial, many thanks for taking the time to share!!

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 15863405

No problem my pleasure! I will defenately correct spelling and grammatical errors plus add few more precisions... You guys have probably figured out by now that English is not my first language and its a long learning curve for me... Anyway hope it help and that you can understand most of it!! Ok as for the seal I found the exact location: Picture is from another member and used as a reference.. DBjoe996 Im not sure its part #10 in the diagram but its defenately protect the sunroof against rubbing or to reduce vibrations or rattle. Thanks for your help!! Btw should I glue it back or put clear caulking on it before re-installing? I guess I should so it doesnt end-up again where I found it but I prefer asking what I should use! Thanks again Hugo

POST 17Original post

Hugo, Awesome tutorial. Followed your instructions to the letter and now have my one-touch back and things are working as they should Thanks for taking the time to document

POST 18Original post

Are your sunroofs still working? I have the same problem and this seems too good to be true.

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 16791367

Yes it work flawlessly since I cleaned-up the switches.

POST 20Original post

Nope, worked once the right way and then back to crazy

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 16791367

Your problem is the sliding function or not? The problem of the sunroof acting crazy can also mean the motor assembly is the culprit not the switch. In one of the step above I clean the motor control board as a preventive mesure. For me it really was the switch causing the problem of no sliding function. No idea what to do for the sunroof acting on its own except to verify all the welds on the board, clean-up with contact cleaner and re-install + Check wiring or exchange unit.

POST 22Original post

It wont slide anymore. Still tilts. I figure its the board. Has anyone tried to get the board fixed?
