Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I thought this should be saved on every 996 owner's computer. Great instructions to deal with your dead battery, including how to access the trunk. Remedial, but well done. http://perryandcoblog.com/2009/11/17...hood-solution/

POST 2Original post

He also made it on Jalopnik. Congrats Perry. http://jalopnik.com/the-catch-22-abo...ium=socialflow

POST 3Original post

BTW, found out one trick to get the lid open with a dead battery. Go through the emergency hookup in the fusebox and then use the key remote to open the trunk. Worked like a charm. I did not see this step posted on any of the threads.

Huh??? I'm not exactly clear. If you jump through the fuse box, then you should be able to just use the regular frunk button/lever.

POST 5Original post

The reason you try the key fob remote buttons is to see if it was just the car going into hibernation and not a dead battery. Of course you could first try the frunk or engine compartment release and see if it works. If not, you have a dead battery

POST 6Original post

Amazing. I have no idea why the simple cable pulls were not continued.

POST 7Original post

Quotes source post: 11793623

A dead battery can still lock you out with cable pulls if the car was locked before the battery went dead.

POST 8Original post

Reason #2 why the 99's rule (reason #1 is the double row IMS - OK mine failed but that's a different story) - step 1 - put key in door an unlock door step 2 - pull lever and open bonnet, hood, frunk - whatever its called

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The levers won't work with a dead battery. They are electronic.

POST 10Original post

Quotes source post: 11794676

Correct. Technically it is cable actuated but the cable goes through an electronic solenoid that couples/decouples the cable from the lock mechanism.

POST 11Original post

First my IMS fails and now I can still be locked out. Oh, well. 99's still rule!
