Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Guys, looking at my car's option code sticker, I realized my car has a limited slip diff. How common is this amongst 996s?

POST 2Original post

I have it on my '99, but I looked a long time!

POST 4Original post

It was only available on 99s and 40th anniversary editions. For the 99s, I believe it was usually coupled with the DTC option. It's not extremely rare amongst 99s, but that still makes it rare among 996s in general. I wouldn't want a 996 without it.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys! Mine is an '02 C2 with option code 220. Glad to have it!

POST 6Original post

220 is definitely the option code for LSD, but I don't think I've ever seen it on an '00-'04 (40th anniversary excluded). Mind posting a picture of the option code sticker as a record for the future? I would like to be proven wrong about the LSD being unavailable on the e-gas cars.

POST 7Original post

Look at "LSD buster" in the 997 gt3 forum. Your lsds suffer from the same shortcomings. It's a rain and ice LSD. It is not a performance unit.

POST 8Original post

Unfortunately, tampering with the LSD would bump me out of my SCCA autocross class. I have often wondered what the car would be like with a proper one, though.

POST 9Original post

You can have your LSD serviced; the disks & ramps are wear items. Guard makes nice parts that seem to last longer than the Porsche or Porsche Performance. It really wakes up your car to have the LSD function as it did when new.

POST 10Original post

ALE, I thought about this while I had my transmission out yesterday during the clutch job. I unfortunately have neither the time or money for it right now, but I would like to rebuild it myself at some point. I would have to use OE parts or parts there were basically exactly the same as OE.

POST 11Original post

You don't want to know how many of your competition has my clutches in their LSD.

POST 12Original post

I've never competed against another 996 in my class. There are 996 and 997 gt3s in the next class up though.

Had a second look at the option sticker under better lighting and looks like knfeparty is right. It's 238 & 288. Also I checked my car's build sheet and no LSD. At first I was feeling bad but I think someone said option code 220 is not a performance LSD so I don't feel as bad.
