It's tougher to be exact with a DA, but I guess try not to run all over the tape.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've started to detail my 2005 C4S using a Flex 3401 and 5.5 inch Lake Country pads. I'm finding the pads too large for most of the panels I'm not sure how small I can go with the Flex. I do have two backing plates and the one I'm using is the smallest of the two. Also, this is the first time I have taped a car to mask off the rubber and lights and I'm finding it difficult. Not only does it take me forever to tape the car, but I find it peels when I go over it with the pads. Are you just suppose to go close to the tape without going over it? I also find the tape picks up the product I'm using and spreads it even when I've moved on to a less aggressive product. Any suggestions on a better way to detail my 911?

POST 2Original post

It's tougher to be exact with a DA, but I guess try not to run all over the tape. I often find that the edge of the tape traps product, and then leaves residue. Try to tape as "cleanly" as possible; there are really thin masking tapes good for this available at places like detailer's domain. I go as small as the 4" pads with a really small backing plate, I think it's 3.5", but that's with a rotary. It's the only way to do the odd spots like pillars. Try the performance/concours forum. There are a few of us on the 996 forum that can work a polisher, but the real geniuses are down in that forum. Good luck!
