This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Imagine each had been maintained by the book and had not been modified in any way. Stock rims, seats, anything and everything. And neither had been tracked. Both cars have had four owners. Both cars have been owned and driven in Los Angeles since new. Your choice is not based on which car will appreciate more, only on which car you would rather own and drive...and maintain. Two other considerations...chose just based on the car only...and chose based on the car and purchase price. Car #1. 1995 993 C2 w/ 100k miles (w/ purchase price of $40,000). Car #2. 2003 996 C2 w/ 38k miles (w/ purchase price of $26500).

POST 4Original post

Depends on your use needs. 996 if used as daily driver, 993 if used more rarely. Especially if you ever sit in traffic during the summer. 996 doesn't overheat like the 993 would.

996 if it's a daily driver, or even a frequent driver. 993 if it's an every other Sunday kind of thing.

POST 6Original post

hmmmmmm tricky and almost impossible to answer without qualifiers, I think the 996 is a better all round car and it has pretty much arrived at the bottom of it's depreciation curve, the 993 is not as good in almost every aspect, but makes you feel much more special, and of course it will be worth more sooner (already)........

I think 993 values (aside from truly special cars) are probably at their peak right now. Seriously, how many 100K mile, mass-produced cars are worth $40K? I think as air-cooled nostalgia wanes (and it will), values for the median 993 will fall.
