Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Reported cause
It is possible the problem is just the cap allowing coolant to leak.
Leading evidence: 'just the cap allowing coolant' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'just the cap allowing coolant' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check "frame" member' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey guys. I took my 03 Cab out for a drive today....nothing too crazy at all. I came home and an hour later saw what looked like oil coming from the back of my car...pics attached. Anyone have any idea how concerned I should be? Trying to get an appointment to have it looked at tomorrow. Regardless I won't drive it until I have a confirmed appointment.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
It's definitely coolant and there might be two drips of oil on the ground also. The runoff looks like it has picked up some of the oil that is on the bottom of the engine.
At first probably it will drive like nlthing happened but don't ignore it or it can become a huge problem. Find where the leak is from and go from there. Most cars tell you when something is wrong but people ignore it and then pay the price. Time to start looking fir the leak.
Ok I'll try looking tonight but don't have a lift so it won't be easy. I'll try to get it looked at tomorrow or Tuesday as they're both days off for me. Thank you for quick responses!!! You guys are as helpful as the guys on LotusTalk
that's a good thing!
Wipe up the mess under the car, put down clean paper towels under the spots where the liquids first dripped. Check the engine oil level on the electronic guage and also manually to see if they match. Start th engine and (barring strange awful noises coming from the engine/trans/ims) and let it warm up to opperating temps. Sit in the car while it warms up so you can monitor the gauges and warning lights. Periodically get out of the car and check under the engine to see if liquid is dripping on the paper towels. After 20 minutes if no dripping has shown up, turn off the engine and wait another 20 minutes to see if it happens. If nothing shows up, go to bed and check the paper towels in the morning. If nothing is on the towels in the morning, take the car for a drive...even drop into your Porsche shop and discuss it with them...explain that you have not been able to reproduce the event.
On the other hand if your experiment does produce liquid, before or after shutting down the engine, secure the paper towels in a zip top plastic bag so the liquid doesn't dry out. If it is not a large amount of liquid, drive to the dealer and go over everything with them. Anyway that is how I'd do it.
Check the coolant level in the expansion tank.
Check the area around the blue cap for crusty white/pink scale.
Check the "frame" member under behind the expansion tank. The tanks crack & leak.
Check the number on the Blue cap, if it ends in 01 get a new one. New one should end in 04 or higher.
Check for play in the water pump bearing and crust around that area..
Check the AOS.
I put a splash of Tracerline UV dye in all my cars coolant so I never have to guess what a fluid is, and I can see the leaky area immediately with a black light.
Works for me.
I've attached a pic of the level. It's definately below the min line. Not too much white crusty stuff. Can't yet determine where the crack is...will continue to investigate. Thank you guys soo much! You're all great for helping me figure this out.
It is possible the problem is just the cap allowing coolant to leak.
So, it would probably be the first thing to change.
The expansion tanks are notorious for developing leaks, and the tricky thing about it is that the leak often cannot be found or noticed unless there is pressure in the system from operating temperature.
The leak was found stemming from the AOS. I suppose that's a relatively frequent occurrence...? At least from what I've researched. I got an oil change whole it was at the shop and paid $630 for everything...not bad considering he spent 7 hours on this job.
