The computer "brain" had oxidation on the connectors, so he had it replaced by Porsche (not cheap). But, that fixed the problem.

Exacerbated by galvanic action, you can see much of the oxidation was caused by watter that somehow entered and pooled inside the plastic case in a couple spots.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My car has developed a bizarre problem. Sometimes at random while driving or sitting still the doors will unlock and the windows will roll down on their own. The problem has now migrated to the windows rolling down when the car is parked and no one is around! It is completely random while driving and the amount they go down varies. When parked, it will happen if I don't lock the car. If it is parked and, theyit doesn't happen. Any ideas? The only symptom I notice also is that the interior light comes on also and the door lock button becomes disabled for a minute or two when this happens.

POST 2Original post

so when I bought my car the first story my father told me was about his "friend" that bought a Porsche and claimed the car started, drove itself down the street and crashed into a light pole while the guy watched ? your story (though not exactly the same) amkes me wonder..... wierd indeed.... I think I would replace the window switches - if that didnt work I would get creative and wire in an extra switch to cut power to the windows like a "main power" switch

Weird electrical gremlin thingies happening makes me suspect moisture. The area under the driver's seat is damp, got damp, or worse. Or a door window seal (and I think someone reported a water leak coming in around an outside mirror fitting) is leaking and allowing rain water, snow melt water, or wash, rinse water inside a door. Check very thoroughly under both the driver's seat and passenger's seat for any signs of water. Check both doors by opening and then shaking the door listening for any sounds of water sloshing. Check the door panels for any dampness. If everything high and dry... Rodents. Sincerely, Macster.

POST 4Original post

Door lock operation and window operation are the same thing the door lock key apparatus will do when holding it either way to unlock or lock. So I figure it's either the switch or wiring in that circuit shorts.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The moisture issue is a good point as the problem is much worse on rainy days. The symptoms initally pointed to the microswitch in the door latch mechanism which, on rainy days, will get moisture in it that could alter the connectivity of the switch. What really puzzles me is the erratic nature of the problem and that on several occasions, the key remote won't lock/unlock. Does the lock/security remote system have it's own "brain" somewhere in the vehicle, or is it integrated with something else? The other issue is that it doesn't matter if the car is running or parked, key in ignition or key out of ignition, the problem continues and only goes away if the car is parked, then locked via the remote only. Using the key to lock the car does not pause the problem.

POST 6Original post

Another Rennlister (Lysoleverywhere) had electrical gremlins, and the remote would also work haphazardly. The computer "brain" had oxidation on the connectors, so he had it replaced by Porsche (not cheap). But, that fixed the problem. Being a big nerdo electrical engineer, I asked if I could have the broken box so I could open it up and see the extent of the damage. The contact oxidation was just a hint at what was going to be inside. See picts below. Exacerbated by galvanic action, you can see much of the oxidation was caused by watter that somehow entered and pooled inside the plastic case in a couple spots. Some parts of the circuitry were pretty hosed, causing the erratic problems and some that failed completely. Some spots were in the high-current switching paths of the relays, and had some really bad corrosion and damage. LOTS of corrosion in between the pins of the ICs and components, which caused high impedance shorts making the thing loose it's mind all the time. So check this box (is it under the seat? I'm still unclear on that, and I haven't looked for mine) becasue it's not a sealed unit and any water or condensation in the area has easy access to it.
