Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

i've heard it can be replaced without engine removal - i'm sure someone with more mechanical knowledge will chime in
Leading evidence: 'Replace without engine removal - i'm sure someone' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace cam plugs and the bellows' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

And I did not loose oil pressure according to the gauge, that was the first thing I looked at, the car ran for about 30 seconds after the noise before I shut it down.

However, instead of us guessing here, someone will have to jack up the car and take a good look from below and use his hand to feel around...only way to find out for sure.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Found this on 6so in response to similar question:
breather bellows (AOS) or valve cover sealant/ cam plug. Reseal the cover, replace the cam plugs and the bellows. Change oil too.
Depending on engine the spark plug tubes some times leak...
Here are some more photos of the wet areas. Didn't think it sounded like marbles in a coffee can but will see what happens.
Expect the worst and hope for the best, I still adore my car and it has been the most reliable car I've ever owned.
The AOS lves right above that. I coudldn't explain the noise thogh as the AOS is not under any oil pressure. It's under coolant pressure. Can you tell if it's oil or coolant?
Smear some on a piece of printer paper and you can see better if it leaves oily patches or it's more like water dropped on the paper. Looks like oil to me.
Hi Ahsai,
Thanks for your replies. The car is sitting outside my shop now so I can smear the paper. If it is oil what do you think it could be? I would rather it be coolant!

If it's oil, I would think cam plugs make sense. If it's coolant, it's either the AOS or the coolant tank. However, instead of us guessing here, someone will have to jack up the car and take a good look from below and use his hand to feel around...only way to find out for sure.
It's a bear for MkIIs. Engine needs to be lowered to the max to gain access. Let me know how many hrs your mechanic is charging you as I'm curious. I would think a few hrs plus parts ($100 parts?).
Sorry for the scare.
What does the fluid smell like? Sweet? Oily?
I can't help with the noise, but I had a similar problem in the Boxster with the bellows hose below the AOS that let loose. They get really brittle and can fire the collected oil down the side of the heads (right side on Boxster), rather than returning it to the case.
