Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

That is part of a cheesy floor mat set I bought.

I bought an Alpine amp harness that uses the same connector.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

23 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

New to me vehicle. Previous owner does not know what it does but is asking who he bought it from.

POST 2Original post

My experience is any switch like that is either alarm related or a kill switch. Interesting carpet.

That's what I'm thinking. That is part of a cheesy floor mat set I bought.

POST 4Original post

Some K40 "Invisible" Radar Detectors had a hidden switch like that.....

POST 5Original post

Quotes source post: 19041428

Got a better picture of them, I am curious.

POST 6Original post

Quotes source post: 19041347

That appears to be the extremely rare James Bond passenger seat ejector button.😜

POST 7Original post

Quotes source post: 19041487

But we can clearly "see" this hidden switch.

POST 8Original post

Quotes source post: 19042121

"Pay no attention to the button beneath the dash..."

POST 9Original post

I have hard wired K40s in both of my cars and neither has a switch similar to that shown in the photo. I vote "kill switch".

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hah. Ejector seats were what I was hoping for but afraid to try. Auto pilot is great as well. I could use that when calls come in. I want to add a backup camera. I can trace the wires then.

"...and don't call me Shirley!"

POST 13Original post

Do you have a backup camera installed? My car has a similar switch that allows you to edit settings on the headunit while the car is in motion that would normally only be available when the handbrake is applied.

POST 14Original post

Quotes source post: 19042237

Way too small for a kill switch, unless it's wired to a relay.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 19042407

Negative. I want to install one. It has an Alpine touch screen. I am not too familiar with its settings but you might be on to something. Seems to be quite a few menu options missing. Just tried a DVD and only the sound works. Might be a park switch to make video show up?

POST 17Original post

Could be a high speed fan relay toggle? I think you just gotta get in there and throw it and see what happens

POST 18Original post

Back when these were still being "CPO'd" for Porsche Factory Warranty, we had to remove any aftermarket items. The K40's were hidden with the module back behind the dash and just small radar sensors wired in the front and rear bumpers. There was always a switch to turn them off so that they are not alerting the Cops if they came up to your window. Some States had Laws against Radar Detectors so they were hidden and if you still got hit, you could turn it off and hopefully not get a ticket for speeding AND a ticket for unlawful Radar Detector...lol All the ones I removed had a switch there or just to the right in the panel behind the center console.. Of course it could be wired to anything, I personally would be turning it off and on to see what happens instead of asking for guesses...lol

POST 19Original post

I would never question the knowledge of @Porschetech3 . The newer K40 units (got mine in 2019) come with a on/off fob vs a wired switch.

POST 20Original post

Quotes source post: 19043034

Yea, I had my heart attack in 2014 and retired. I haven't had any dealings with the new K40's, but I think they are still the top of the line along with the Valentine 1...

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 19042903

Id bet thats it. I have the same alpine headunit.

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 19043227

I still haven't flipped the switch, hah. I took the radio out and tried to see if I saw the same wires coming in behind it but did not. I am trying to add a backup camera but the dang harness for reverse wire input is missing from the head unit. I bought an Alpine amp harness that uses the same connector. Hopefully it fits.
