Easy to clean, light and strong as he'll, not to mention they show off a big brake kit better than the others.

I picked up a cheap set a couple months back for my second set of rims and can't wait to see how they look on my 99 after I get them cleaned up and powder coated.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Somebody on this forum should purchase these wheels! They are the lightest of all the 18" rims Porsche ever produced and still look amazing. We hear so much about unsprung weight.
I would buy them but I have bigger issues in front of me.

Yeah, I don't get it either...
If I had a set of those wheels sitting in my garage, I would sell them as fast as I could to cash in on the silly values...
Too busy looking for my tastes. Thinking about cleaning them makes me break out in a rash.
Those aren't bad. My problem is that when I see them I think, "who put STi wheels on a Porsche?" because I owned an STi in the past.
For me, simple = good when it comes to wheels. Which is why I like my Carreras.
Ditto. Even without a pretty backdrop, the Carreras look great. Easy to clean, light and strong as he'll, not to mention they show off a big brake kit better than the others.
MY02 wheels FTW. According to that link with weights, the rears are actually a tad lighter than the 408 God's gift to the Porsche world wheels
I much prefer the aesthetics of the MY02 wheels. Someone can correct me, but I thought those Turbo twists were made when Porsche was in the money saving mode so they all have the spokes angled in the same direction so they look different on right and left.
You are right about the weight, but a key ingredient is the strength of the Carreras. They are incrediably strong for their light weight. Not to mention they visually work beautifully beyond the 996. Many 944 and 928 owners use them and they look awesome. They may be the only porsche wheel that is able to transcend models and eras.
They definitely are one of the best looking most universal Porsche wheels. They look fantastic on 993s too. I picked up a cheap set a couple months back for my second set of rims and can't wait to see how they look on my 99 after I get them cleaned up and powder coated.
They also don't cost a fortune like 408s. I also am not a big twist fan.
What's kinda funny to watch with fascination is the demand for porsche wheels. I remember when nobody wanted the Turbo Twists and everyone wanted the Carreras back in the 2000s and early 2010s. Now it's the reverse.
The 996 crowd is fickle isn't it.
As a side note, I can't wait until the Carreras become the favorites again so I can sell one of my two sets and buy a set of APEX wheels. It's only a matter of time.

408s are expensive for a reason.
They were (still are) the best 18 OEM wheels you could get on a 996.
And looks are subjectivebut theyre also the best looking
Haha, I forgot to say that Arctic Silver is the best color.
Seriously, I think its the 993 owners who are paying a premium for the hollow spoke twists.
They want a set if their 100K+ 993 is missing the 408s thats listed on the build sticker.

They are made by BBS. I have those wheels on my 996. And yes, they are a bit of a pain to clean.

I also had the gold BBS STi wheels on my former aspen white WRX wagon until some 17 year old that was texting rear ended me on the freeway when traffic came to a stop and totaled my WRX. I still miss the WRX wagon.

I wish I could get the Carreras in 17" I'd love them for winter tires.. DWS06's and the 17's would be awesome..
Almost impossible to find cold weather tires that make sense on my 03 C4 18" wheels, especially on the 10" rims.
To me the 997 Turbo style is the best looking/most stylish wheel that has ever came on a Porsche....( Subjective I know ) .
I never liked the Turbo Twist and thought it is too plain looking, and just didn't understand why everyone liked it so much...The when the 997 Turbo wheel came out, I was hooked , but it didn't fit my 99 C2 .. I was ecstatic when Porsche started making them in off-sets to fit the C2 , and HAD to have them...
I have been very pleased with them and get compliments on them all the time...And they are "forged" wheels made by Fuchs also....( most all the OEM wheels are cast)
Front 23 lbs 6oz 8x19..... Rear 28 lbs 6oz 11x19
Can someone tell me whats not to like about these wheels??
Opinions I feel can never hard lined. What someone likes and others dont is just way of life.
Now if we revised this thread to include, what lightest street wheel or strongest wheel thats light or easiest to clean or I dont know best all around OEM wheels based on availability and such. That may have helped, but I love the passion we all have.
Personally I always felt Porsche had very soft impression wheels. Not a lot of flash because car wasnt intended to be look at me its flashy design. Thats my opinion and why I cant stand the chrome Victor equipment wheels that came on my car.
Just grabbed turbo twist 18s from a member for stock 00 cabrio. Now Ill sift through pages to find best all around summer fall tire and size to run
Yea, thats what I had thought. The intent for the Turbo Twist ( and others) was to keep the wheels "low key" as to not distract from the car it's self...
Be that as it may, being "low key" also doesn't "enhance" the look/style of the car...IMO
I considered buying a set of BBS wt the mesh look And aluminum ring. I was then going to have the middle powdered coated to the color of my roof and interior being metropol blue. Thought be cool but would prob cost like 6k when all done if not more. Then cleaning them would be a beast.
You like them and thats what matters.
For me those wheels are aesthetically the worst part of a 997 turbo.
They look like theyll continue to spin after the car stops.
Everyone has different opinions on style.
Right now people love and will pay more for 911 in fly yellow.
Id pay extra for a 911 that isnt yellow.
Right, these Fuchs are so easy to clean it should be illegal...I just bought another set for my sons 99. They can be bought for well under 2k used for now,...( but are hard to find in C2 off-sets) it may go up when people find out they are Forged Fuchs..lol
Ok, so they have a "continuous speed" look to them,,, I can dig that...lol
Right !! I have found that these wheels are very " polarizing "....to Porsche people, they either love them or hate them....
And I don't know why ??
