Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I did a "test fit" of the HVAC control with the two connectors plugged in to it, and there seemed to be sufficient length in the loom to enable its fitment (though I couldn't gauge its position accurately as I didn't have the mounting frame, because the dealer ordered the wrong part ...)
Leading evidence: 'Test fit" of the hvac control' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Test fit" of the hvac control' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Does relocating the HVAC control/display unit require the use of two of these brackets to secure it in the revised radio/HVAC control dash insert/surround in the dashboard proper ?

This afternoon I managed to thread the loom through the lower dash area and up to the void behind where the standard single DIN radio and HVAC control/display would be - by using my shoelace and the four 10mm nuts used to secure the bracket which the lower centre console housing the HVAC unit and PSM CD drive used to live in

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all, Im about to undertake a complete PCM and lower centre console delete on an early 996.2.
So I plan on removing this early 2000's tech fest excess/extravaganza :
and replacing it with the elegant simplicity of this arrangement :
using these parts :
So to the questions ...
i. As I understand it, the existing loom for the HVAC control in the lower centre console can be re-routed from this position back up to its "usual" position above where the radio would normally be fitted in the upper dash horseshoe, without the need to be extended ?
ii. Does relocating the HVAC control/display unit require the use of two of these brackets to secure it in the revised radio/HVAC control dash insert/surround in the dashboard proper ?
A look at the image of the revised dash insert posted above/earlier in this post, and this image of the HVAC control/display below from The Bay of E, would tend to indicate they're not needed as the unit has two lugs which the screw heads will secure when screwed into the revised dash insert/surround :
Any tips/advice on the conversion gratefully received. Many thanks.
Are you doing a straight radio delete? I did a headless system install on my 996.1 with the same look that you're going for. To answer your specific questions:
i. The wiring can be re-routed without the need for any extension. The length is tight (and maybe there is a better way to route it than I did), but its enough to get everything hooked back up.
ii. Two of the brackets (996-573-501-00) are needed. The control unit is smaller than a single DIN, so I can't imagine going without them even on the 996.2 support frame. If you look closer at the pic of the support frame you posted, there are 4 holes in the upper location (2 for each bracket). I'll try to pull the trim and take some pics of mine over the weekend to verify.
You'll also need the trim for the control unit (996-552-677-00-01C) for the upper location.
Excellent information many thanks

But I do have the new trim surround for the HVAC control unit part number 996 5526 770 001C, however ... its upper edge is raised, whereas in the image I posted in my original post, the section looks flat :
New trim surround profile :
Being a 996.2 it has the cup holder (which will be refitted) I wonder is the trim/surround for the HVAC unit, part number you quoted, flat, or raised like the one I have ?
Suncoast has 2 versions, one for the .1 and one for the .2. I did this on my .1 and the trim has the raised edge like that. Also just a heads up there's some rubber pieces that go on the black plastic pegs to actually hold it in place, I had to reuse the ones from the old trim piece, was very confused about why the trim kept falling out until I figured that out.

Many thanks for this, its much appreciated.
I discovered the plastic/rubber grommets you mentioned, one on the pin of the old trim, the other in its rightful place on the HVAC control/display.
Yes, the little blue clips are easy to miss. Eventually found mine attached to the removed trim.
