I'm using a couple of active under-seat subs in my basement (needed to fit in tight hidden area) with a 12-volt power supply and they are surprisingly powerful given that they are only 2" to 3" tall (with 8" and 10" drivers).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The PO, probably when the car was newish installed a Genesis amp and a subwoofer. Problem is, the subwoofer is on the floor board, where your feet go, on the passenger side. Is there a smaller subwoofer I could install, say under the seat? Not in real need of a subwoofer but, if I can keep a subwoofer in the car, probably not a bad thing. Next up, it seems the Genesis is set up for Right, Left, and a Subwoofer. However the system was wired, when I fade from center to the back, it seems all the speakers go down in volume except for the Subwoofer. When I fade to the front, it moves the sound to the front and kills the subwoofer. I am guessing I need another amp so that all 4 corners will be controlled by the fade and L/R settings and then the woofer independent of the 4 speakers? Thanks, Greg

POST 2Original post

You could get a slim powered sub ( has the amp inside the box) and then keep your 4 channel amp and still put it under the seat. You will have to get a power wire to the amp from the battery though. As well as a remote turn on from the genesis amp.

I agree this seems like a good approach to restore the rear speakers, plus active "under seat" subs are much easier to find than passive subs. If the OP searches for "under seat sub" on Amazon, there are plenty of options, though I don't know if any fit under the seat in a 996. I'm using a couple of active under-seat subs in my basement (needed to fit in tight hidden area) with a 12-volt power supply and they are surprisingly powerful given that they are only 2" to 3" tall (with 8" and 10" drivers).

POST 4Original post

if youre in the tri state, you can have a free sub box. fits in rear shelf and the rear seats lock them in place
