Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I understand the need to scope from the bottom as this was just a preliminary check but something to note is the top of the piston is very shiny on the one side so much so it is reflecting off the cylinder wall which leads me to believe the top of the piston is coming in contact with the cylinder head...
Leading evidence: 'Check but something' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check but something' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
You want to see the cylinder walls to check for scoring, not the top of the piston.

Specific oil and change intervals, among other things.

Maybe Jake could chime in on why the top of the piston is polished on that one side also if I run the car with the air conditioning on the noise is almost 100% gone and if I increase the RPM ever so slightly more there is zero noise.

It's just funny how the only symptom I would have of bore scoring is the ticking noise the car uses zero oil over the last 5000 km...
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Have a light ticking at idle when warm. No other symtoms... So decided to scope from top as a start...pic of plugs 4,5,6
Cylinder 6 sorry for the poor photo. Any expert thoughts?
That's the top of the piston. If you scope from the top you need to turn the engine by hand to get the piston to the bottom of the cylinder. You want to see the cylinder walls to check for scoring, not the top of the piston. Also, if you read enough threads here on bore scoring, it starts from the bottom. So if there is scoring at the top it can mean the scoring at the bottom of the cylinder is even worse. To scope the bottom the oil pan has to come off and then you turn the engine over by hand to get the piston at the top in order to see the cylinder walls.
I understand the need to scope from the bottom as this was just a preliminary check but something to note is the top of the piston is very shiny on the one side so much so it is reflecting off the cylinder wall which leads me to believe the top of the piston is coming in contact with the cylinder head... As I don't see any other explanation for the top of that piston to be so shiny. Like you say the bottom is probably scored pretty bad and the piston it might be rocking in the bore...
The shining is the oil on the top of the piston. As mentioned there is some minor scoring in that picture, not game over bad though. Given the amount oil on top of the piston and your plug it could be worse from the bottom. If you dont have symptoms like knocking or oil consumption I would keep driving it. OR sign up for a 2023 FSI build and keep driving it until then.
Just have a ticking sound when warm from the #6 area... probably going to keep driving it until it gets worse or more symptoms appear. Car will only see about 1500km a year when it gets worse will go a rebuild of some sort...Hartech or FSI
It looks like there is an indentation in between the valve cut outs on the top of the piston like something had been coming into contact or is it a trick of the camera?
Looks like a bit of carbon on the piston and the rest is cleaned off and polished looking as I believe the piston is coming in contact with the cylinder head creating the ticking noise that I'm hearing.... It's just funny how the only symptom I would have of bore scoring is the ticking noise the car uses zero oil over the last 5000 km... Maybe Jake could chime in on why the top of the piston is polished on that one side also if I run the car with the air conditioning on the noise is almost 100% gone and if I increase the RPM ever so slightly more there is zero noise.
