Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

If the whole package is too pricey I'd recommend buying at least the episode on timing.
Leading evidence: 'Recommend buying at least the episode' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Recommend buying at least the episode' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I was looking into this myself if/when I have to replace my actuator pads.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Dear friends,
I have a stupid question regarding TDC
How can I be sure that the engine is on TDC on cylinder 1?
The engine is out of the car and the heads are off, now I would like to reinstall the heads and eventually timing the cams.
So, I turned the engine clock wise until a get cyl #1 on TDC, then removed the 1-3 head, then I turned the engine clockwise 360 degrees and locked it again, imagining that by doing that I was locking cyl#4 on TDC and then I removed the 4-6 head.
Then I made another 360 degree turn to put cyl#1 again o TDC and that is how the engine is today
But that was a few months ago, and today I'm very sure anymore
As the engine stands right now both the cyl #1 and #4 are on the TOP and all the other cylinders (#2,3,5,6 are completely the same exactly distance on the bottom
So, since both cyl #1 and #4 are on the top, how I know if the #1 is on the power stroke or the exhaust stroke?
Also does it make any difference for the next step which is timing the cams?
I made a small video to illustrate better the situation

Thank you all
I was looking into this myself if/when I have to replace my actuator pads. At the rear of the engine (scavenge pump side), the notch in the intake cam needs to point away from the block for bank 1-3 and toward the block for 4-6. They talk about it in this video beginning at the 2:00 mark.

Yes, the heads are off and nothing is timed yet, I do have the pin on the tear drop shape hole on the pulley, my doubt is :
Just by doing this Im ready for the head assembly and the eventual cam timing?
Yes you are ready.
You can fit either head first, just time the cams on the first head such that the timing is correct on the cyl. closest to the crank pulley for TDC at the end of the compression stroke. Then turn the crank 360 degrees and to the same for the other head.
Perfect! I'll do it, since this is the first time I disassemble and timing this engine, or actually any engine for that matter, I wold like to be extra sure and careful
Thank you so much for the help in peace o mind in doing the right procedure
regards
Ricardo
OHHHH, that explains a lot! I was under the impression that is how this timing worked ( at least mechanical wise ) but then I was thinking what If I put the correct timing on bank 1 then turn the engine 360 degrees for bank 2 ( then in theory the timing for the engine will be correct )
Then I though, what if now the ignition and injection is set for the other side of the engine or out of time 360 degrees
Meaning giving the spark on cylinder one when the cylinder one is on actually on TDC for exhaust and vice versa for cylinder #4
To be honest, since I still not seeing the big picture, I still don't know how the ignition and injection will know when CYL #1 is on TDC for compression/ignition
But for now Ill just timing the engine as advised by all you guys and hope for the best!
Once more, thank you all for the help
If you want the right procedure, then order Jake Raby's Focus On: M9X Engine Assembly series. He covers the step-by-step instructions on this process.

I would second buying this video series even if you just purchase the videos covering installation of heads, cams and timing (probably by that time you might as well buy the whole series). Considering the questions you are asking, I think it would give you peace of mind during assembly as timing is often one of the steps most often screwed up. Worst case, by the dvd series and offer it for sale after your done.
Bobby are the individual episodes sill available on Amazon Prime? If the whole package is too pricey I'd recommend buying at least the episode on timing. I own the entire series and it's phenomenal. One of the best technical instructional series I've ever used.
It does so based on the cam sensor signal.
Once per cam revolution the tab in the picture to the left of 'E8150' passes the sensor and together with the crank position sensor signal the ecu calculates ignition and injection
Our contract with Amazon for 2021 ends on Nov 1. At that point, people will need to purchase it from LN Engineering, Pelican Parts, or direct from The Knowledge Gruppe.
