Car has 68000, don't know when the engine was replaced, had a Porsche Dealer run the VIN and no record that engine was replaced under factory warranty so I have to assume it was a customer pay replacement.

Suggestion

If the mileage is high, its so easy to do, I would just consider dropping the engine and replacing all the other wear items.

Jnelso Yesterday 03:50 PMJnelso IMS DIY's. I am getting ready to replace my IMSB on 1999 996. It has factory reman engine installed some time ago, designated by "AT" in the engine code. It is my understanding that this engine could have an updated IMSB that is not serviceable. My question is whether to just R&I the trans or drop the whole assy with eng and trans. I will be doing this on jack stands, so if I just remove the trans I will be doing the bearing under tight conditions. How many miles on the Porsche reman engine? Just curious why you want to replace the IMSB on the improved engine? If the mileage is high, its so easy to do, I would just consider dropping the engine and replacing all the other wear items. You will know your IMSB deal as soon as you separate the engine/trans after drop. Even a total n00b can drop the engine in a few hours.
