Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Got email from friend. His 2001 C4 Cab, sat for 5 days without being driven. Heavy rain yesterday (car was outside). Approaching car, buzzing and/or clicking sound from both doors. Battery dead, door would not open with remote. Unlocked door with key, then he popped frunk by powering connections at fuse box. Has charged battery (time and current voltage unknown). Car will not crank with either key. Lights come on (dash) as normal. He suggests maybe brain lost key data, I think not. Dead battery should not do that. Im thinking either battery is toast (needs load testing), clutch switch not activating or a relay failure somewhere. Not sure age of battery. The noise it was making before opening makes one think of a short or open relay somewhere. Any suggestions appreciated.

POST 2Original post

Check the floor of the car for water. Likely rain has gotten in and damaged the immobilizer.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Correct, he vacuumed about gallon of water from back floor boards. Then windows rolled up and down by themselves and horn blows. He disconnected battery for a while. After re-connecting, car now starts.

He was lucky, the immobilizer is $2K to fix.
