Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

My question on a 200k mile motor do u think the ims to cam chain is just streched or should i have changed the bank 1 soliniod too?

Should i try to reset the cam gear under the scavange pump and "cheat" it a little?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So i borrowed a scanner and was able to read the crank angles in my engine. So i did all 3 tensioner, 2 variocam chains and pads, pads on the long chains, bank 2 variocam soliniod only. Bank 2 is now slightly positive, bank one started around -7.2 but went to -6.2 as i ran it for a few. (Numbers get halved because they are crank angle so there r still well with in spec) Both deviations moved approx the same amount see pics. My question on a 200k mile motor do u think the ims to cam chain is just streched or should i have changed the bank 1 soliniod too? Should i try to reset the cam gear under the scavange pump and "cheat" it a little? Im 99% sure im just gonna leave it but i would like to hear what others think. Before work was done. Initial numbers After the bank ine settled down

POST 2Original post

I think I would give the bank 1 a little nudge. Just get it to TDC, remove the scavenge pump, loosen the 4 exhaust cam bolts, back the crank up 7 degrees (CCW). ( make sure the cam stayed still but the gear/chain backed up). then re-assemble. No need to remove the tensioners, with the bolts lose, the gear should rotate easily on the cam.. The reason the manual tells you not to rotate the engine counterclockwise, is that you can squish the oil out of the tensioners eventually and end up with a lot of slack in the chain..

Could you elaborate on this? I see the units are "deg crk". Do other scanners ready this differently?

Thx for the info. If i get motivated ill try to do this. Of course the suspension blocks my view. it was explained to me that the dme reads cam angle and my scanner reads crank angle. Since there are 2 crank revolutions per cam the value is divided by 2. This all makes sense as i was not throwing any codes even with values over -11.
