I think this involves changing the ecu aswel as the engine to get the engine to work properly!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm sure I already know the answer, can a 2000 3 chain engine be swapped in to replace a blown '99 5 chain engine? I don't think it can be done (easily), but I've been asked to confirm.

POST 2Original post

I think this involves changing the ecu aswel as the engine to get the engine to work properly! The engine wiring loom is also different but this should come with the 3 chain engine if it's complete, if not I have one I could possibly sell ?

First you need to confirm the year model, a 2000 is a 5-chain and will work with only a few parts swap..

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The car is a '99 C2 with a blown engine. The engine he want's me to check out is a 2000. I figured you could swap the ecu/harness, but there's too many if's to take on this job. Honestly I don't want the job because it sounds like a F/U waiting to happen.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Pretty sure the other engine is a 3 chain... I have the numbers here somewhere.

All you have to do is install the cable throttle body and engine harness from the 99 C2 to the 2000 engine and good to go....

POST 7Original post

Yea a 2000 engine is a 5 chain. Just had mine out. as others have said the tb is different because u have a cable and a 2000 is fly by wire.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The owners car is a 1999 C2 car is VIN WP0AA2992XS626887 with engine s/n M96/0166X13764 The two possible engines he's now interested in are for sale by the same seller. 1) from a 2000 C4 VIN WP0AA2995YS620258 with engine s/n M96/0466Y04447 2) reported to be a 1999 car with VIN WP0AA299XXS623655 and engine s/n M96/04AT660 (can't make out remainder of number, but my understanding is that an engine with AT in the s/n is actually a Porsche replacement engine. if it just a engine harness swap cool, but I want to know for sure before we proceed.

either engine will work m96/04 are 5-chain... just needs the cable throttle body and engine harness from the 99c2
