Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I replaced the original white and gray gauge cluster with black cluster here that has black faces.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

So you went from a 2000 C4 gauge cluster (that worked correctly) to a 1999 C2 gauge cluster.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I swapped in a new cluster and it shows a brake fluid warning Light. The previous cluster did not. Also, the brake fluid, of course, is in normal range. Is this a connection problem or some other malfunction?

POST 2Original post

Swap it back and see if the warning goes away..saves time...and is a "need to know" for through diagnosis...

When you say "new", does that mean brand new, or is it just "new" to your car. Looks like some 80K miles on the cluster. What was wrong with the old cluster?

Correction, new to me. That's part of my transition toward Sports purpose dark themed interior. I replaced the original white and gray gauge cluster with black cluster here that has black faces. It is from a 99 C2 if that makes a difference in my 2000 C4. My understanding is that the gas gauge may be less accurate however that is not an issue for me.

POST 6Original post

So you went from a 2000 C4 gauge cluster (that worked correctly) to a 1999 C2 gauge cluster. To me, two options, (1) trace back all the wiring differences on both gauge clusters and circuits boards, figure out what those differences are and resolder joints and connections; (2) pull the bulb on the brake fluid light and motor on.

POST 7Original post

Hmm, what if the brake fluid light is burned out on the original cluster and the new one is correct? Try disconnecting or shorting the wires on the brake fluid cap to see if there's any change in the IP light.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes, it's a bit of a diagnostic puzzle. Ha ha, the easiest solution is indeed to remove the bulb. I'm not that worried about my brake fluid level since I see it every time I open the hood but there may be a solution. It would not be surprise if the 2000 cluster is similar to the 1999 but I didn't find anything after a limited search so I threw it out for the forum. The stuff some guys know amazes me. Maybe all the circuits were revised but I didn't find that in my searches. Does the cluster have any processing of signals from inputs? Does a warning light come on when a connection is bad, (open), or when it is shorted? Can a fault be cleared with a durametric or other? I'm no expert compared to you guys so I may be way out of line because my 72 has Webers and no expert there either. So it's whole different world here but it's all good. BTW, the concerns about fuel level have not been a problem but I did swap with a full tank as has been implied.
